I have been shooting a 10" steel plate at 30 yds. Revolvers are a S&W 581, Colt Trooper, Uberti 1873 clone (all .357s) and a S&W 29 (.44 mag). My handloads. The pistols are a CZ75, HK P30, Beretta M9 (all 9mms) and a HK USP in .45acp. Also my handloads. My range time has been 50 rounds per gun. I started with revolvers one day, pistols the next. Then I rotated between them. Did this every day for a week.

All have different points of aim and all have variants in triggers. Some are a little more challenging because of the sights.

I have firmly come to the conclusion that some revolvers shoot better than some pistols. Also that some pistols shoot better than some revolvers.

Glad I got that settled.

There isn't much room for error at 30 yards from a handgun. Then you take into account the different points of aim, sights, hold, etc., like you were saying. I bet it was fun though.

Any day spent denting primers and burning powder is a great day. God bless range days and the joy they bring

Sounds like a good time! Much like hunting and fishing, even a bad day at the range is better than a good day at work!

I use to head shot rabbits off a cotton picker with a g21 and a colt trooper . Lol

Armadillo didn't stand a chance. A rem 125 gr hp will explode a Armadillo. Shot a rabbit back of the head looking away it pull the hid so hard it broke both hind legs and pulled the bone through the hide . I stopped using them lol

Was a few coyotes that came to me bushhogging that didn't make it either .

Single action. The revolvers tend to have a better trigger. Two of the revolvers have target sights. None of the pistols do. I was anticipating the revolvers to shoot better but they really didn't.

I'm thinking either will shoot pretty damn good in your hands Roadkill.

Nope - I just have a decent baseline to start with the comparison. They all have their pros/cons. The CZ75 is scary accurate but too heavy to stay with for long before I start dropping shots. The S&W 581 is perfect for me in size and weight but has the milled top strap sights. The 1873 is very decent but the stick trigger blows plus the milled sights. The Colt Trooper has target sight but the trigger is so light you will throw a shot if not very careful. The HKP30 is a B- overall as is the HK USP. Both completely reliable and accurate but lack overall accuracy. The Beretta M9 is also very good but sights are basic and its heavy. The best shooter is the 629, has target sights, great trigger, but again after about 30 rounds accuracy goes down because of the weight.

Will wait a few days then take something else off the wall and see how it goes.
