Have a couple very rocky plots on my property. The soil is actually very good below the rocks. Have tried throw n mow with poor results. Any other suggestions to for fall planting that doesnt involve destroying a disc / drill? Thanks guys

Have you had good cover prior to the throw and mow planting ? If it was sparse, try overseeding with some brown top millet just before a rain this summer.
"Cull" is just another four letter word...

You’ll have to build up some topsoil for T&M to work well…..Its not something you’re going to have great success with on hard rocky soil the first time you throw seed out.....Try using cereal rye as well.

I’d run a plow shallow then go over it with a rock rake. Should get the bigger stuff out so there’s no problem discing

I have a lot of experience with this. Rock rake it, then never disk again. Every time you disk will bring up more rocks. Start building your soil with brown top millet, sunn hemp, and buckwheat. Let it go to seed, mow it to 18 inches and let it grow again. Build soil on top of the rocks using the throw and mow method. Soil test and amend accordingly.

Top coat with Marshal Rye. That stuff will grow on gravel. Plus the deer love it.

I got the same problem. I used a turning plow on my plots. As stated above try to build up your soil. Rye, wheat and even the dreaded rye grass. It will grow in the worst soils and help build up your top soil.
