Krispy Kreme is like the Walmart of donuts....high volume, low quality. Babe's Donuts in Tuscaloosa is solid, and Gibson's in Memphis is incredible......and I'm not even really a "sweets person". But once you've had good donuts, KK/Dunkin/etc just doesn't cut it anymore.

Will have to try Babe's when I'm in Tuscaloosa. My general favorite is Shipley's, a Texas chain with a store in Hoover. I'll eat Krispy Kreme, but I prefer donuts with a bit more bite/chewiness from a good yeast dough.
And don't get me started on Dunkin- they're cooked in Atlanta and shipped in frozen.

You get all the calories and fat, but you could eat a dozen of them and not feel like you ate anything. With Babes, Gibson's and others like them, you actually feel like you've eaten something. If you're ever in Memphis and have a hankerin' for a donut, try Gibson's. Don't take my word for it, they've been featured on Food Network a few times.

For a good donut, try G&S donuts in Montgomery. Local shop with a fabulous glazed donut.

OK, the OP was about FREE KK doughnuts. Are the rest of your foo-foo ones mentioned free?

KK ain’t up to em. There’s a donut shop across the street from our store, daylight donuts, those are some count.
