Guess that says a lot about their way of doing business. Abolish the dcnr. Divide their money among the duly elected sheriffs and let them enforce the game laws. Nonsense like all of this will stop and by cutting out the bureaucracy in Montgomery we will actually have more money for game law enforcement. Too much common sense in this post for government to use this approach.

But a while back I started reading about some big cities considering contracting out their fire service. Save on pension, ins, etc. They discussed how they wanted it to work. Police would probably be next. It took me from "no way" to kinda neutral. Of course what I as seeing was pro contractor, not anti who would surely make some good points also.

If the state sets up near your mill usually it means that there was a bad wreck involving a log truck,or the mill hasn't donated enough money

No jest on my part. It would be a far more efficient system to send dcnr monies to the sherrifs and let them enforce all the laws. The sheriff knows he is accountable to the people, and we will have a far better chance of fair and reasonable law enforcement.

The problem with this approach is actually the increased size of beauracracy. 67 sheriffs whose budgets are controlled by 67 county commissions. Not to mention 67 different views of the game laws and how to enforce them. I work state-wide, often with sheriffs departments, and they vary greatly in their ability and willingness to enforce and investigate laws. IMO game law enforcement would be worse under the locals as a whole. In some places it would be better.

Wouldn't making the commissioner an elected position and not appointed achieve some of what you speak?? That would be easy to do. 2). Governments from local (garbage pickup) to Federal ( A LOT, some very vital) contract out jobs. It can be done. All major companies employee mercenaries. I know General Electric does.

Sure, that would be better than what we have now. What I have posted in other threads is I'd like to see an elected board similar to the cab that would set the seasons and limits. That would give every hunter a representative he or she could go to that is accountable by election. This board should certainly be empowered to hire a reasonable number of consultant biologists to help them. Having the sheriff enforce the game laws would no doubt cause some new problems and enforcement might indeed be worse in some counties. But at least the people have a chance to elect a different one. We have no say at all now. I can't see how this would increase the bureaucracy in any way. Lots of money would be saved by eliminating the Montgomery kingdom completely. The only new positions needed would be all the new deputies. Sheriffs can enforce game laws now; they just seldom do it. All this would require a constitutional amendment, but AL loves them. We just need a governor willing to push for it. I believe Clem is the man for the job.
