I did a wheat/clover combo last year in a small opening in pines. I used a lot of fertilizer. I've just got a small lease with a friend, we're AU students and can't afford a lot. We just rented a tiller, threw the seed and fertilizer out by hand and it worked surprisingly well. This was in Tallapoosa Co. in pretty poor soil, I think if we'd bothered to lime it it would have done a ton better.
