No change of venue, that is very, very rare and no jury for a YO case. The officers and the judge are immune from civil liability. The retired warden should not be as he was not at the time employed as a law officer.

Does a "reserve deputy" have any legal standing? Is that an honorary thing or some kind of "Eh, he's a good ol' boy and we'll help him a bit" kind of buddy-buddy thing?

I know if some old man was physically blocking me from leaving a property that I had all legal rights to come and go from, he would be physically moved out of my way. What would have happened then? That old man is gonna get shot one day if he keeps that crap up...

I just would be totally pissed off if this happened to me, even if I did shoot the damn stop sign or something. I find it real hard to believe that those kids were dumb enough to shoot at something when there is a house just less than a few hundred yards away with lights on and some old man standing by his truck with the lights on. Just doesn't make sense. Their lawyers should have hammered that old man...everytime I come back in this thread and read on it, it just completely ticks me off. This could happen to any of us.

"That old man" is a retired state game warden with about three decades of experience. So, he's probably been in a few more tight situations that might have resulted in getting shot than blocking someone's driveway.

Dogs, you better quit throwing rocks at TC's surrogate grandpa even if you did put the smiley face on it. Troy's liable to get pissed, get in his truck, drive over and bend you over his knee and wear you out with a hickory switch!!!!!!

Right, when he was a game warden...and much, much younger. And I would respect a game warden's right to hold me. Not some random man claiming to be some reserve deputy showing no proof, for all I know it's some old dude with dementia. And he's still an old man, retired game warden or not...just like TC's grandpappy grin

Sitting here waiting to see a customer and read the transcripts. mad I can tell you why those young men made the decision to bring that gun along for the ride!!!!!! BECAUSE they're young men, reared the country and they're outdoorsmen and there is nothing wrong with that.

It seems like the young men know their Second Amendment Rights and attempt to abide by the law.

IMO, those young men were railroaded. Regardless, none of the accusations could be proven. I have some questions as to some whys... but given what I read, a guilty verdict I could not support.

For the person that asked, and I think it was Clem, Alabama now requires reserve officers to graduate from a police academy, which a retired GW obviously did unless he started about 50 years ago and was grandfathered into APOSTC. They are also fully certified, with full arrest powers. Now just being "deputized is a different matter.

I haven't read the transcript yet so I can't comment on anything except this is the first I have ever heard anyone say bad things about Judge Bozeman. I have never been in her court, nor have I ever met her, so I can only say that I've never heard anything negative about her before (until now). That goes for the GW also.

Thanks, Jawbone. Was just curious.

You'll have to deal with Rusty on working for 50 years and being, oh, about 70 or so. grin

You reckon the fact that Rusty Morrow is the Executive director of the Alabama Conservation Enforcement Officers Association had any influence on the verdict?

Not as much as he is probably well respected in Lowndes Co. as a LEO and long time resident. I'm not making a judgment and saying this respect is deserved or not because Lowndes Co. hasn't always been in the forefront of integrity among its officials or citizenry. I do truly doubt that his professional affiliation, which I doubt a judge is even aware of, played any part in it.

He's a old man and you have to respect your elders but if it had been me as one of the boys or my son well. You have to whoop a mans arse some times.

"You have to respect your elders!" I teach my kids that up to a point. Looking back, as a young man, I was very very respectful to people as I am now and especially people much older than me but on a few occasions when I was younger, I was, unjustifiably, treated very disrespectfully by a few older adults that I should have clearly whipped their arse as they were in the wrong.

It doesn't matter how young a kid is as long as the kid is "respectful"... that kid deserves to be treated respectfully. If a retired GW blocked me in and could not show proper ID, which I would respect the law, but if he can't, I am personally going to move his truck out of the way or one of us is going to get his arse kicked.

being in an area were wildlife frequent. With a weapon capable of taking said animal. That kinda makes you guilty of night hunting every time you ride down the road at night with any firearm including pistols.

definetly need another lawyer.

should have asked the game warden did he have a pistol on him that night. And then went and filed charges on him and the deputies
