Wonder why the kids ran and why they were in his yard at 12:30am. Huh maybe they will not go to another person's house late at night anymore.

Funny how the kids did not get charged for trespassing. we go after the man who fired the shot, but they need to address the root problem. The guy may be wrong for shooting, but if they had not been there and woke him up in the middle of the night, he would not have shot anyone. The kid is lucky this man didn't get a better shot.
This is why I tell our kids that people need to consider the consequences of actions before they do things. Don't be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Choose carefully who you hang around with.

Where's all the "I'd shot him too" folks at? Here I am...sort of. I can see both sides. I understand the law here and he was wrong. But again, if they weren't trespassing and messing with the guy's truck, he would not have shot anyone. If charges are filed, then get both parties involved, not just the home owner. It just seems like we've turned the criminals into victims and the victim into a criminal.

This juvenile is bigger than most adults. Juvenile probation knows him well. This isn't justifying the homeowners actions..just sayin.

I heard later a member of the boys family visited the homeowner and said something to the effect the boy should have never been there in the 1st place and didn't have any hard feelings for the shooter.

Here is one of them "I would have shot at em too" folks.
Once when I was 20 and once when I was 48 I used a firearm to address a situation on MY property. One time involved someone trying to come into my home. I pulled and pointed my gun. I was arrested for pointing and presenting a firearm. One time involved a gang (12-15 punks thugs) jumping me in my front yard. One shot was fired in the air. Punks ran away. I was arrested for discharging a firearm in the city limits. Just before the LEO put cuffs on me, he had to take pics of me where 3 of these punks hit and kicked me (in the head). One of the boys pulled a blade on me. The punks did get arrested for SIMPLE assault and battery, $450 fine. Same fine as me firing the gun. You should have seen them scurry away, like a band of cockroaches exposed in the middle of the night. I had good attorneys both times and I have no criminal background. The cases never went to trial/court. Point is, we live in DANGEROUS times when a man cannot protect himself and/or his property without fear that the law will come after him. NO problems from punks and thugs after the gun shot. And Id be willing to bet Mr Jones will be left alone in the future! Good For Him!

Where's all the "I'd shot him too" folks at? Those folks get in my nerves too. You think you know what you might do but until you are looking down the sights at another human you'll never really know. Perfect example the trespasser that drew his bow on me last year. I had pulled my gun up and knocked the safety off without of realizing it. In the past I'd have said I wouldn't have shot anyone that was trespassing but you really just don't know.

Beadle, there is a difference in a trespasser and someone pointing a weapon at you, even archery equipment. He back down quick??

Bad spot to be in. Glad it worked out. Most situations do. Stats show that guns thwart violence in USA over 12,000,000 times a year.

I do not think charges should have been filed against the man.
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14
