I killed three charging towards me and my daughter when she was three years old standing on my own land walking out to check a deer camera. Havent ever found out who they belonged to so dont sit there and tell me about pits and how good of dogs they are or how much i know about them. also i have had to deal with more than once at some of the rental houses and trailers i used to own so i do have exp with these dogs. i also know two peole that have one that is a great dog and even them i have a 45 on me when im around. I know two chidren that have been attacked by a pit and both are scared up pretty good so there again i have seen what they will do first hand. and you act like its something to be proud of that pits only killed half of all people killed a year. by your post you got one and im sure love it but that dont mean i have to. i put my family and there well being over a dog and i dont have to worry about my family being harmed by a pit nooooooo i have to protect them from the rest of yall that own hands down the most dangerous dog out there. I ain't sitting here telling you a dang thing. You are the one who said it is a numbers game when it is not. Nothing in my comments have made me sound as if I am proud that Pits only caused just half of the fatal attacks, once again it was you that said it was a numbers game. How dare you say that about me. You don't know me and have never seen me "Act" so how in the heck do you know what I am acting like? Even with your close calls and being around Pit Bulls, you still have not witnessed a fatal attack, yet you dispute my statement that most Pit Bulls will never even attack much less be involved in a fatal attack. Once again it was you who said it was a numbers game. No where on this site and several discussions have I said I currently own a Pit nor have I said here, or in any other post that a Pit Bull won't attack and cannot be a vicious dog. I have always only argued that most stats quoted by these "kill all Pits" people do not warrant the seemingly unreasonable fear and hatred some show for these dogs. I believe it poses more of a danger when folks unreasonably fear one particular breed while ignoring all the other breeds that can, do and will also attack and can cause fatal injuries, just look at the "cat saves 4 year old" video. I have been raised around these dogs and owned several up until about 15 years ago. They were all from a known bloodline and were used for hog hunting, guard dogs and general Horse, cow and goat dogs. Never had a problem with them being too aggressive with the farm animals, they never attacked or killed any of them. Our Ranch boarded horses and also rented them for rides on our land and rented them for rodeos. Folks known and unknown to these dogs were out and about all hours of everyday as these dogs had free range. Not a single attack, bite or fatality..ever. Our dogs were never trained to do that so they didn't. I know what these dogs were capable of. I have seen then in action and I have seen them run and hit a Hog twice their size with the power that a modern day NFL linebacker would be proud of. Difference between these dogs and the ones you see in the news are that these dogs were well trained and came from a good bloodline that these traits were breed into them They would not attack the hog, or anything else for that matter, unless they were specifically told to. This was in the late 60's and early 70's and attacks were simply non existent too us. In short I have been around the breed on a daily basis and had a few inside my house and sleeping in my bed so don't you sit there and pretend to know more about these dogs than I do. Fact is I used the numbers from "YOUR side that shows your argument to be false when you stated "Most pits dont kill anyone my ass!", the stats, again provided by "your side" seems to prove that statement wrong, unless it really is your contention that there are only about 20-30 pit bulls alive and well in the US. Keep in mind that Boxers and Boxer/Lab mixes were counted in these stats as Pit Bulls. Dog, or any animal for that matter, attacks you or presents itself in a threatening manner to you or your family or just happens on your property and you don't like the way they look, then by all means, shoot, kill or what ever you feel you need to do. You have my full 100% support and I'll help buy the ammo if you ever can't afford to any more. However if you are going to play the "numbers game" then have the numbers to back it up. As it stands now the numbers just aren't there even though one fatal attack is too many. The Numbers aren't there to use scare tactics to persuade a man who is asking for advice to go onto someone else yard and shoot or poison a dog that has done nothing but bark and breathe. Who knows what the owner will do if the guy is caught doing these things to the dog. It ain't worth getting arrested or worse, killed, over some ramped up stats someone is giving over the internet.

Can you count? Anyone would love to invest in something that has a 50% return on their investment. the number dont lie even if you are so blinded by your pit love. look at the facts over the past just say ten years and so will see if someone is attacked by a dog and killed the odds of it being a pit that did it is a very high number. you may have a point if the numbers were split between of dogs but the pit is over 50% and all the other breeds together make up the rest. so the numbers arent on your side no matter how you spin it. and both the attacks i know about first hand was a loving family pet that turned without warning and one was shot as he couldnt be pulled off the child and the other one was pulled off by the owner and was put down by the vet.no one that doesnt own one of these or have had one of these dogs defends them this hard.

Here are some # you can chew on and try and spin.according to dogsbite.org the summary report says 65%of the pit bull attacks lead to death. 1991-1998 pits killed 23 americans. 2004-2011 pits killed 140 americans. no other breed comes close to their numbers. the kill rate for pits is up 625% over the last 8 years. tell me again about my numbers and how im wrong. pits are banned in the uk because of all the attacks.

Yes I can count. I am just not too sure you can!! So you are saying you get a 50% return on your investment because 50% of fatal attacks are by these dogs. Lets examine this statement. First you are wrongly assuming that everyone who buys or obtains a Pit is getting the dog so that they can have it attack and kill someone. Is this actually what you are saying? This ain't Snap Chat so your comments aren't going to disappear in a few seconds, which means everyone else can read them also. Secondly 16 Fatal attacks a year is 16 dogs a year who fatally attack a person. That is 16 dogs out of the estimated 2-8 million of these and their mixes being owned in the US. using the lowest number estimate of 2 million owned that come to about 0.000008% of these dogs will be involved in a fatal attack. 0.000008% is a far cry from that 50% investment you speak of. Like I said, the numbers aren't there for playing the numbers Game you want to play. You are going to have to have a better argument than that. May I recommend that you just hate them for no reason in particular? that is a much better argument than the one you have now that the numbers in the Game just don't add up. Along with your Math skills you seem to be lacking reading comprehension. I have already said I don't currently own a Pit Bull or any of the various mixes. The last Pit I owned died about 15 years ago and he was the last of that bloodline and I could find no others from any combo of that bloodline to purchase so I decided to not own one again. I chose a couple of Dachshunds instead. I currently own a Cocker Spaniel/Boston Terrier mix and a West Highland Terrier/Jack Russel mix. So as you can see I do not own "one of these dogs" and I am not defending them I am defending the inaccurate numbers you are posting. There is no spin on my part, numbers don't lie they just add up to something and have no personal preference as to what they add up to. Your spin is that , based on the numbers you provided, shows that a- Most Pit Bulls are involved in fatal attacks. Numbers there just don't support that. However if you unspin your comment to say that Most Fatal attacks involve Pit Bulls, that would be a true statement that the numbers support. But that don't make every single last one of them dangerous though does it? B- all pit bull owners got a Pit so that they can have a dog that will kill someone guaranteed....or atleast 50% guaranteed. Once again the numbers just do not support that. Out of that low number estimate that actual number that will be involved in a fatal attack is 0.000008%. 0.000008 is about the diameter of a Red Blood Cell in meters. Thats a far cry than just over a million dogs that will be involved in a fatal attack that you get from using your number of 50% will and the number of estimated Pit Bulls alive and able to inflict these deadly bite. 1,000,000 verses the actual 16 that are involved? Come on man!! C- I clearly said One fatal attack was too many. D- It doesn't matter that the number is 50%+ in favor of the Pits when you compare the actual numbers of fatal dog bites with the actual number of available dogs to provide those fatal dog bites. Besides I never once said that the Pit Bull did not occupy the number one spot. I understand that the odds of being fatally bitten is higher when it involves a Pit but the odds are miniscule that any one Pit Bull is going to attack you and inflict a fatal bite. You contend that "most will", I contend that, based on the Numbers, they won't. Over 2 million(lowest estimate available) are alive and well in the US and they are NOT running around killing people. If they were those numbers would but sky high. In conclusion, as the "Numbers Game" goes. Your argument won't stand the test of "the Numbers" and is found to be false. Kill all of them that get close enough to you if you must but don't come in here and throw some wild statement around as say its the Numbers Game that makes them dangerous. Just be truthful and say that you hate them for charging you your kids and for biting your friends. Isn't that a good enough reason.

Thats where I got the numbers from!! Dogbite ,org. That was the website that was previously used in another thread. I already said this!! 65% is just over half would you not agree? 31.5 are the AVERAGE number of yearly fatal dog bites, a little over half are Pit Bulls....that is what I wrote and it is straight from the website? I ain't spinning the numbers, I have no reason too. Opps. It would appear that the rough estimate I did was indeed incorrect. 65% of 31.5 average per year dog bites is actually 20.475 on the calculator and not my 16 guestimate. sorry about that. but 4 extra dogs compared to 2,000,000 available for fatal bites isn't going to make that much difference. Thats 0.0000102375% vs 0.000008% I apologize for the error and should have used the calculator to begin with. You are the one who said it was a numbers game, not me!! Jeez Louise you made an outlandish emotional statement and were called out on it and proven wrong, by the numbers and now you accuse me of spinning the numbers? Use your numbers you found and do the math yourself. The answers will be the same.

I read something a few weeks ago that said pit bulls make up less than 10% of dogs in the u.s. But accounted for 44% of all dog bites in 2013. In addition to the way they bite. The hold and shake type bite produces more soft tissue damage than say a lab that bites and let's go.

Ok then tell me smart ass what dog kills more people than pits? Im just giving you the facts which says im right. and now im waiting on your answer on what dog kills more han pits do. good luck with that one cause that dog is not out there. Well since you must know smart ass( I can curse too) I have already given you the answer to that already in post #962644. I said it twice: #1- "if you unspin your comment to say that Most Fatal attacks involve Pit Bulls, that would be a true statement that the numbers support." #2- "Besides I never once said that the Pit Bull did not occupy the number one spot. I understand that the odds of being fatally bitten is higher when it involves a Pit". The only thing I disputed and shown you with the numbers what I disputed you was your statement the MOST Pit bulls are involved in fatal attacks. Well I am sorry but a yearly average of 20 pit bulls involved in fatal attacks is no where near the estimated 2 million (2,000,000) Pit Bulls owned in the US.(again the lowest estimate available) So how could 20 out of 2,000,000 be most smart guy? That doesn't even match your narrative of 50%!! 50% isn't even most, that number would have to be 51% or greater for that narrative to prove factual as most. It's Not even close yet you are bound and determined to show me as some kind of radical Pit Bull owner. You failed at that because I don't own one. It's all in the numbers baby and the precieved threat that you feel when around the dog. But the numbers don't lie nor do they support your argument that most are out there killing as we speak.

I read that too. It was on Dogbite .org. I have no doubt they can cause tremendous damage, Ive seen then in action against Hogs.
The CDC says there are no accurate measurements available to know how many Pit Bulls and their mixes that are counted in these fatal Dog Bite numbers exist in the US. However they go on to say that the estimates range from 2-8 million.
It should also be noted that the reason the CDC numbers differ from Dogbite.org is that Dogbite.org said their fatal pit bull attack numbers included Boxers and Boxer/Lab mixes. They never specified how many that added to the numbers.

And I have already shown where that number comes to about 20 fatal attacks. It is on the same site you listed your numbers from....it's math dude not emotion that proves a numbers game! Nowhere did I make outlandish claims so it isn't up to me to do research it is up to you to prove your statements using the Numbers you quoted and specifying that it was a "Numbers Game". You need to research and find the numbers that matches your argument. That is all I did. I just looked at your numbers, found where you got them and did some reading and some basic 5th grade math and came up with my numbers. Nowhere did I brag about anything, that again is your emotions speaking.

Im sit waiting on you to come up with some numbers of a dog that attacks and kills for people a year than a pit does. you come up with that let me know. other wise you cant defend the most dangerous dog you can own. if they would start putting these owners in jail for murder when there dog kills someone maybe then would the numbers go down on attacks by pits.
