My neighbor has an empty lot between my house and and theirs and a few weeks ago they got a pit bull and they have it chained up on the empty lot. I have a small child and its makeing me very nervous as the dog is about 30 yards from the edge of my front yard. Also the dog barks day and night which is another issue. Another neighbors dog got out a few days ago and ran towards the pitt and the pitt was lunging at the other dogs neck it just couldn't reach it because of the chain. I was telling a friend about it and he said just go shoot it but like I told him that would be hard to explain since the dog is chained up.

Any advice on what to do? Should I call animal control or police but then again if the dog ends up dead I would be the first person they would question about it.

The dog will get loose sooner or later, they always do. my adivice is to "help it" get loose and get "lost" before it happens when your kids in the yard and you arent around.


Im not one of the "all pits should die" crowd on here but what you just described is the exact recipe for disaster and made me nervous for your child just reading it.

Wrong approach. Call the local animal shelter and make as if you feel sorry for that poor puppy having to live on a chain. Some bleeding heart will show up, remove the poor puppy from such a horrible environment and have it put to sleep.

When there not home a 22 behind the ear. Throw it in the back of truck and chunk it.

Most insurance home owner will cancel you if they find out you have a pit. and i know this with first hand rental houses when they contacted me about a pit at one of my rentals. sorry to hear you got one that close acting like that but one thing i would make clear if it gets loose it will die. if it gets loose and harms someone in my family the dog wont be the only one that gets taken care of.

I would make sure I hit the neighbor up and express my concerns. Are you in an area where the barking could be called in as a nuisance?? If so, just go outside and make it bark and call it in. Get the neighbors to speak to them as well. I like the call in the poor dog idea too. If he gets loose, there may be more than just a minor injury to deal with.

What kind of people are we talking about here? Stereotypically, someone who chains a pit in the middle of an undeveloped lot won't waste a lot of time trying to figure out why it's suddenly laying there dead. The odds are great that the dog will starve to death so you might consider speeding up the process.

One way or another I'd eliminate the dog before the inevitable happens.

Syringe, hotdog wiener, and antifreeze. Do the math.

Put up a fence. You won't go to jail and your child will be protected.

I retract my previous idea and substitute it with this one if you wanna spend good money on somebody else's actions of owning a pit bull.

Always stay within the law.

Even if it kills your child.

Havn't spoke to them in years. I was jogging one evening when I first moved in and and their teenage son yelled profanaties out the window as he drove by later I had words with the mother about it and havnt talked to them since. They do feed and water the dog everyday from what I can tell.

Call the animal warden at noon & tell them the dog is barking, appears to have no water and you have no idea how it came to be chained in a vacant lot.

You will most likely never see or hear of it again.

hell no if it kills my kid its open season on pits and there owners. after i went to talk to them first so there would be no question asked when it kills someone and i show up with a gun and ask them which one wants to go first them or the dog!

"It" hasn't killed anybody. Most Pits don't.

What alot of the "Kill all Pits" crowd advice being given here is a felony.

Chaining the dog to a stake in the middle of the yard is absolutely a recipe for disaster and will make ANY dog a serious threat.

Man up and deal with the owner. I'd ask him/her why they thought it was necessary or a good idea to chain a Pit to a stake in the middle of an empty lot.
I would certainly check to find out what, if any, laws the owner of the dog will be violating by chaining the dog to a stake. Lots of stuff that can make that "not humane". Be a huge pain in the butt about it who cares if they look at you first if something happens.
While I am not a member of the "kill all Pits" crowd, I am a "keep my family safe" member so if you still feel strongly that your family is at risk then by all means do what you believe is necessary to take away the threat. I would refrain from posting on an open forum about it though, because like I said earlier, like it or not just up and killing a dog on someone else property while it is chained to a stake will almost certainly get you jail time and use the wrong method to do it could lead you to lose a ton of rights that you now take for granted.

Its only a felony if they can prove the dog is worth over $500.No law against shooting a 22 on your own property unless its in the city.

committing any crime with a firearm makes it a felony.
