"Better" is too much of a relative term. Each person will have their own standards.
With that having been said, in my humble opinion, for me it is age of bucks being killed. We try very hard not to shoot young bucks with the exception of youngsters and their first bucks. We are also very fortunate in that all our neighbors have either similar, or even stricter standards.
Money for habitat manipulation would be a distant second.

Shooting young bucks and not enough summer feeding at the club and pressure. At the house not enough land and everyone around me shooting small bucks.
Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

All of those issues were a problem for me until I put up 8 foot high fence, now it's perfect!

I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

Not enough cover for bedding areas.
It takes a long time to grow an old friend.

No trigger control is the main problem in the place I just got into. The layout of the land is perfect in many ways though.

Checking cameras when they show up on Friday afternoon, throwing corn out all over the place, and then walking the woods when they get out of stand.. Other than that the property is awesome, great soil, corn and soy beans in the summer, plenty of water and cover..

Our hunting club is in pretty dang good shape. The one thing that could really make it better though would be better habitat management. Fire has been absent from the property for at least 5 years now and the productivity of the habitat has slowly degraded. The understory is very lacking as a result in many areas. There are a couple pine stands that are over due for thinning as well which also creates the same desert effect on the understory. Not having an adequate understory component present on your property full of forbes, legumes, native grasses, etc... really cuts down on the amount of food/shelter available to all wildlife on your property, including deer, turkey, quail, rabbits, etc..

Crimson, i would love to drop a match on our club, but its Alabama Power property, and there's a no fire policy. Even though on APC hunting clubs, where they take clients, they burn every year. I hope to start burning on my farm sometime within the next year.

#1 is low deer population. Closely followed by people shooting 2 yr olds and not letting them reach maturity.

Poor soil planted in pines. Better soil planted in soybeans and corn is probably the only thing that would make a substantial difference. Since that is impossible i guess it is about as good as it can be.

Lack of sufficient monetary funds to buy/lease more land. Lack of sufficient monetary funds for habitat improvements. Human Pressure (hunting and non hunting). Time.

Not being able to manipulate the Property Can't farm for wildlife as Timber company farms for Pines Little fields, bad soil, and deer can hide all day long in the small pine timber.
