Man a guy I work with was out of work and dead broke. He decided to go wading looking for bottles. Needless to say he found a 1906 Pepsi made in Bessemer. (Could be wrong on some of those details). He traded it to a buddy for $1500 worth of guns so he could sale them. His buddy turned around and sold it for $4500. I had no idea there were bottles like that. As many bottles as I have shot over the years I could be rich.

some bottles are worth many dollars depending of how rare they are. Theres a lot of people that have bottles worth a lot of money just hanging around. Big market for them. Then there are some not worth much. Bottles before 1900 (old cork type bottles) that have embossing on them which is raised lettering made into the bottle usually get a good price.

In the last few weeks I have walked through 3 or 4 spots where there were several old bottles. I almost picked a few up, but have no idea what I am looking for. Is there any easy way to know how old a bottle is? I cannot bring them all home.

I bought a rental house a few years ago. In the crawl space was lots and lots and lots of bottles. I kept the "cool" ones and threw the rest away.

I dont buy them but have always picked them up when I see one anytime im in the woods. I have a nice lil collection. I need to look and see I think I had a couple really neat old soda bottles.

Here are a few I have found with a metal detector in the creek behind the house. It picked up the metal from the old cork tops that were pushed into the bottle. One in the picture is still intact on the top. Can you give me an approximate age?

those are what are called hutch bottles. The prices on them range starting from $20.00 depending on where they came from. What does the embossing (lettering) on them say. they are from around 1880 and are soda bottles. Is there any embossing on the bottom of them, that will help to find where they are from and I can place a price on them.

One says Exselsior bottling works Selma, Alabama
The other two say JH or JW wells Selma, Ala.

the exslsior bottling company was a company that producted soda and water in Selma Alabama and Florida. that bottle was produced around 1870 to 1880. The last example that I could find sold for $38.00, there were a lot of them made. I couldn't find anything on the Wells bottle but there were a lot of small companies in the 1800's that sold sodas.

I have one that looks to be a corked bottle. It has "Watkins" in raised letters on the side. The bottom has raised letters that say "Container Made In USA".

the one with Watkins on it is an old med bottle. the Watkins company produced syrups and medicine in the late 1800 and early 1900's. If it says made in USA it would be one of the latest ones made around 1900 just before the screw top was invented, worth maybe $5.00

Ive collected old bottles for 33 years. I have a royal itlaian bitters bottle that is purple and is one of the rarest bitters bottle out there. Don't think I want to sell it though.
