Anyone ever hunted corps land near Boligee? Looks like you need a boat to access most of it. I talk,Ed to a guy last night that had pics of deer stacked up at their skinning shed.

I have friends that hunt down there all the time. They kill a lot of deer but very few good deer and yes you need a boat to hunt most of it. It sounds like you talked to one of my friends that hunt down there from the description.

He said it was really thick, never more than 100 yard shot. I may give it a shot this year.

You can shoot further if you are on one of the dyke walls and a few other spots I've seen over there. Get you a good slug gun or muzzle loader is all I can say.

All of it is wooded, yes. But it's not all thick. The deer I shot was 130 yards and I could've shot a little farther. There are sho nuff thick places, but a 100 yard shot doesn't constitute as "thick," to me at least. Most of it is flat, and has levies (sp?) that are good to sit on and have a vantage point! There's some good hunting down there, but it ain't easy. Be careful navigating those rivers, and if you hear a "big boat" go by and it doesn't slow down, you better head towards your boat and hope you have something to dip the water out. My buddy's boat has been sank there SEVERAL times. It's fun hunting there, but can almost make you ask, "is it worth it?"

Have you ever hunted the spots you can drive to? I would suspect those get crowded fast. But I see a few big islands on the map, I wonder how they are. The one at Rattlesnake bend looks pretty big.

I've always wanted to hunt that area but live too far away to join a club over there.

Never driven to any of them. Figure most places you'd have to get through a locked gate to get to them. I'm sure they get utilized a lot. The toughest ones to get to aren't left alone by any means!

Only a small portion of that island in Rattlesnake bend is corp property the majority is private land. If I'm not mistaken I believe a Club is there. I do know it gets hunted alot because it's close to the Belmont Landing in Sumter county.

Correct... the vast majority of the island is private property. A guy I know used to be in the club a few years ago.

Just looking at the maps compaired to google earth it looks like some good hunting. I figured that about that island, it's right there at a campground with a launch near Forkland.
