I have been hunting Alabama all my life, I am almost 60 and been at it since I was about 6 , started with my grandaddy and great uncles. Not that many deer until maybe sometime around the 70's where I am from. Went to Ky. last weekend to look around, I was really surprised. Not only at the number of deer we saw in fields and ones we jumped up, but how damn big they are compared to here on average. The does up there in western ky. are as big as a good buck here. Me and a couple of buddies are planning on hunting WMA's up there this coming season until hopefully we can find some to lease. Saw some shoulder mounts, horns, and skull mounts I could not believe.
But, according to what I have heard and read they are the number one state over everybody in Boone and Crockett deer harvested every year. I am sure the one buck a year has helped in that regard. And their state management is second to none. I hate to say this , but our state management and harvest practices are not working like theirs. Just wanted to pass this on , because I have seen it first hand.
