I work for West Marine in Mobile, we see this a lot. A tig welder and weld a patch is the best solution, else mix some G-flex and filler and smear it in. The problem with sticking a bolt in it is disimilar metal corrosion will make it rust out worse over time. You in effect build a battery with the aluminum becoming an anode.

Cork it and cover with caulk or roofing tar. Cork from a George Dickle bottle works best !

Fur can i get away with a 180amp mig sans spool gun to weld aluminum tubing for boat stuff.? With argon just not using a spool gun? You can give it a try. Just buy a 2lb spool of wire to start with and you won't waste much money if it doesn't work.

Fiberglass, as was mentioned earlier. Covered the bottom of our 12 ft aluminum boat in 1991 and it is still solid.
