Steel man I think you are greatly underestimating the power of a 4 stroke, my 18 foot center console aluminum boat has a 90 Yamaha and goes plenty fast and that's with a 50 gallon bait tank in it holding nearly 500 pounds of water and my fat butt and whoever else is fishing with me plus a cooler and ice and all my fishing gear. My grandfather had a 20 foot flats skiff with a 150 merc 2 stroke and switched to a 115 Yamaha 4 stroke and experienced no loss in speed or power. Actually I don't know if you will find many aluminum boats rated for much more than a 115.



Good point, ive never owned a 4 stroke so im not familiar with them.. thanks for the advice i will keep that in mind when i go looking at boats


My dad's got an 18 foot express with a 115 Yamaha 4-stroke. For an all around boat it can't be beat has big live wells he changes the oil about once a year even though he should do it more it's an 02/03 model and he has never had a bit of trouble and it looks excellent

He might trade you for a bay boat if you have one laying around lol
