I found a piece of sheet metal, put some quality silicone AND some old scrap rubber molding I had between the square of sheet metal and the boat, then put 4 bolts (one at each corner) through the sheet and the boat, then sandwiched it down tight as can be. It's just an old "back of your truck" kind of jon boat, and frankly you can't even notice that place unless you're right up close.
