Bart,

Learning is a life long pursuit. Just go to the library and pick a topic of study and immerse yourself. Then repeat. Never too late.

I have. Didn't finish but had two awesome years at Auburn before I went to work in oil and gas. I should have finished. People my age who did are WAY ahead of me on the pay scale and don't have any glass ceilings to deal with. Tell your kids to hang with it and it will pay off. War Eagle.

Straight out of high school to the University of Alabama. 17 years old from a graduation class of 23 students! Hated every minute of college, couldn't decide on a degree. Finally realized I was wasting my parents money and decided to go to work. I look back now and feel I was not prepared, maybe I was too young. I regret not getting a degree, but I'm happy with my life now.

I learned how to live on $20 a week and still afford a case of Budweiser. (and in B'ham, too.)

I got my AA at a Jr College (played baseball = free ride). One of the first classes that I took at USF was Elementary Analytical Chemistry. Day 1: I went into a big auditorium filled with 300-400 kids (WOW). There was 3 sections. A middle and rt & left sides of seats. People ready to learn sitting everywhere. I sat in the back row (VERY BACK ROW Center section).

I went to my first lab, and didn't have an area to work. The TA said, those of you without lab space don't worry, 75% of the people won't be here after the first test. I thought he was full of sh1t. I was wrong.

I ended the class sitting in the back of class, but I was in the 3rd row, and there were only people in the middle section. That class went from +300kids to 27.

After Analytical and Organic the classes only had anywhere from 9 to 30 students. P-Chem they combined undergrads and grad students. This is a school with +20,000 students.

Auburn...BS Marketing 1997.

I believe that getting a degree shows that you can start and finish something...and have a half way decent head on your shoulders. However, much more is learned when one starts to work in my opinion.

I have plenty of friends who didn't graduate and some who didn't ever step foot in one. Some of those guys do very well. College ain't for everyone and doesn't guarantee you anything. These days, having know how in a trade can yield a very good living. Each day that passes.........there are less people in this country that can fix anything........hell some can't even change a tire.

Got my associates degree in Industrial Electricity from Shelton State in 1994. Worked ten years as an electrician. Started back to school in 2000 at Athens State, graduating in 2003 with my undergrad in Human Resources. In 2010 I graduated from Texas A&M with my MBA. Getting a college degree really opened the door for me - my only regret was not getting it done in the 1990s.
