There's a spot just off the road where we jog four or five times a week where just recently there were piled up two large dead animals: a deer that had been hit by a car and an adult cow that had died and been drug there with a tractor.

The buzzards cleaned that deer up in about three days, but they won't touch the cow. That's 700 or more pounds of stinking, swelled up carcass.

Reckon why the buzzards won't clean that cow up -- won't even touch it?

Ive seen buzzards peck around on grown cows but never really eat them like they would any roadkill. Sometimes its like they bluff a car coming at them for road kill. I hadn't really thought about it until your post but it seems like dogs and yotes do most of the feeding on cows. Maybe the hide is to tough to mess with when they have other options I dont know.

I have had a few cows die over the years and have dragged them to the woods on the backside of my pastures.

Buzzards have always found & eaten them.

Maybe just something about that particular caw carcass?

From my experience, you wont see to many other animals eat a "SICK" dead animal. Most times if a cow dies from sickness he will just rot. Verses a cow that may have died calving or choked to death they will usually clean them up. My $.02
