Looking at getting a doberman. I love my German shepherd but he sheds a lot. Anyone have experience with owning one? Know of any good breeders?

I have a 5 year old red phase. Best dog I've ever owned. A friend was breeding them for a while but has stopped now, so not much help with the breeders.

Look at a weimaraner too. I have one that's 7 years old and she's a great dog. Stays off the furniture unless she's in the basement, doesn't shed much, and is as loyal a dog you will ever find. As a matter of fact when I'm home she is usually no further than 10' from me. She even sleeps by the bed at night.

Please tell me you are not getting rid of the German Shepherd that you love because he sheds?

We have had one Doberman. He was a great dog up until he turned 3 then he started getting a little aggressive, then one day he snapped an turned on my dad. The dog took a nice long nap right then an there.

The only way mine will defend anything is if he is getting in between you and the door trying to get you to pet him. He's probably not your typical dog but he won't even bark at people. That being said, stranger are nervous just on principle. His parent are the same way. An armidillo doesn't stand a chance though.

I have owned and raised them.Dont get a blue. They have skin problems and you will battle it as long as the dog lives.Reds tend to be a lil more aggressive especially females.Black and tans are great and if you can find a fawn they are gorgeous.I had a rule I set for myself. If the parents were less than 65 pounds I wouldnt even look at the pups.Small dobies usually mean there is some uncle daddy -aunt mommy action in the bloodline somewhere.Dobies from a long bloodline are great dogs.

Good, I have a German Shepherd that sheds a lot, but she is my best friend. I am sure I do some things that pisses her off, but I do believe I am her best friend.

Had one as a kid and it was a great dog. I think it must have had some greyhound in him, because he could fly! Jumped barbed wire fences like a deer.

I was an MP at Ft Stewart at the time, I tried to get that dog killed and they wouldn't do anything about it, the other people who were bitten wouldn't press charges and since it takes more than one documented biting incident nothing was done.
