Looks like there are horizontal marks on the tree made by a person using something metal.

e, but I don't have an explanation for it? We have a lot of bears in my area and nearly all of the scratched trees I've seen the claws are well pronounced. JMO The ones I have seen in oaks usually do too, but the ones on trees that are not as soft do not, but heck it could always be big foot

Looks like my first couple of attempts to use a climbing stand. No its not that. We saw several trees marked up but they all were cypress trees. It was very strange. I wish I would have taken some pics myself.

This area doesn't get much human (hunting) pressure and it's doubtful that anyone has been here. Some animal did this and the only thing I can come up with would be a bear. bigt, I know has experience with bears so I believe him.
Maybe I'll get pics of this bear but I'm sure it's on the move.

Don't know, but would think a bear would leave deeper nail marks in the meat of the trunk.

x2. Look in the last pic at the other side of the tree from the mad kid - if you really zoom in you can see his outline between two trees. Surprised y'all didn't smell him/her/it.

All of the bear scratch posts that I used to see in the Okeefenokee Swamp in SE Ga. had pronounced claw marks and were around 6-7ft off the ground. They can really rip them up.

Bucktrot, how high up were the markings on the tree and I do not have any cypress trees around here so would you say they weren't soft as an oak or harder? As far as what booger said about theirs being 6 to 7 ft of the ground they must have a larger variety than I do. I have only seen one that might have been that tall.
