I'm in Northern Clarke Co "on" the T'bee River. Last weekend, my son and I found a large tree that looked like it had been shredded by.... I guess a bear. I know there are a lot of bears south of us but I haven't seen one on our property but I guess it's very very possible. Here are the pix. Besides a black panther, which that's what I think it is  is this a bahr????  Thanks!

Looks like a bear did it to me. Seen a few the bears got a hold to while hunting in florida.

There have been some young male bears around Coffeeville in recent years. Very possible it was a bear. Just hang a feeder full of corn...

I saw the same thing in Marengo county last weekend while hog hunting on the Tombigbee. Huge cypress trees missing bark up to about 5 feet. We thought maybe the deer were pawing at it to eat the moss on the bark. I'm still puzzled because the land owner didn't mention black bears as a possibility.

bigt, coming from you... and there is no doubt that you KNOW bears, I accept your opinion and value it. Well, I be doggone!!! There is a major hog/deer trail behind that tree and I put up a camera. We'll see if I can get a picture of a bahr!!! Thanks!!!

Looks kinda like it to me. They are very interested in paint on trees too. In GA we had tracts that there would be marked lines with lots of the paint missing. They seem to be attracted to it for some reason.

Doesn't look like bear to me, but I don't have an explanation for it? We have a lot of bears in my area and nearly all of the scratched trees I've seen the claws are well pronounced. JMO
