Had one at our hunting camp back when I was a kid. A fancy 2 seater! Used them several other places over the years as well.

Never at a residence. But at campgrounds, river put ins, ect.....I have used them many of times all over the country. They always suck in late July and August. One thing I have learned is always take your own TP.

One time next to clear creek of the Arkansas river in Colorado I was walking towards one with it being about 300 yards away and I had to go bad. I see this car racing down a dirt road towards it and sure enough when I am almost to it they stop and go into it. Only choice I had was messy pants or to go right outside of it.......I didn't mess up my pants.

Worst one I've ever seen was at a camp on the Kern river in the southern Sierra Nevada. I went in and looked around, turned around and found a place in the woods instead. Nastiest thing I have ever seen.

When I grew up most of our relatives that lived in the country had out houses and only a few had running water in house. Some only had a faucet on the back porch and wash pans for dishes. A bucket with a dipper to get a drink. I don't think most folks could live that way today. They just didn't know any difference.

Trust me...it crossed my mind...but, explaining to our beloved Drill Sgt, why PVT Maldanado was absolutely covered in chit...and having to ride with PVT Maladnado on the 130 degree Cattle Car we rode in, the 20 miles back to base...which had a listed capacity of like 60 troops, and we packed in probably 150 troops...We decided quickly to not give PVT Maldanado a quick Airborne lesson...and yes...its was in 1983, and I do remember his name

Used a outhouse once when I was a kid. While we're on this type of subject......how many people have been to a drive in movie? I went twice as a kid and I wish they had one now a days. Would be cool for kids today to see how it used to be.

yes we had one when I was a kid.

my dad's sister married a fella from clarke county. we used to visit his family from 1974 - 1982. i think they had indoor plumbing installed around 1978. went back to find the old house around 2010. believe the above picture was the outhouse.

We didn't have indoor plumbing when I left home in 1980. My parents sold the place in 1984 to a friend. I stopped by the old house and visited Steve the new owner ( had to come back to Missouri for a funeral )in 1996 and he had never put indoor plumbing at that time. I don't know if he has yet. Here is the most recent google earth image 2012 and the outhouse is still standing.

we have one at our hunting tent right now, ya'll did catch the tent part, before the outhouse, bucket with no bottom in it, prior to the bucket was the closest pine tree, we still use the bucket as the seat in the outhouse

We have an outhouse at the club in Jackson County. The club in TN has all modern amenities though

I crap in an outhouse nearly every summer. We usually build one on dig sites. Cheaper than renting a porta-potty.

...also used to dig them on Army bases...
Even used slit trenches...
But the EPA shut that down...have to use porta johns now...
Trust me...you have no idea of disgusting when 1000 troops have like 6 johns...

I have used them only three rules applied.....check the seat for critters, keep paper dry, and use the lime .....my kids love the one in gatlinburg...they think it is cool

I had a great uncle that had one til the day he died in 91.They didnt even get running water in the house til 78.He did have electric as he called it for as long as I remember.With a name like Moon Mullins you couldnt expect anything less.lol
