Well...this is my 15th season and I've hunted hard but chosen my times wisely. I've honestly hunted hard for the majority of that 15 yrs. Some years harder than others, but none harder than the last 4 or 5. I've had good bucks on camera (PLENTY), and I've had several encounters with a few...but closing the deal has always eluded me for whatever reason.
FINALLY, this past Saturday the 18th at 10:02AM, it finally happened.
July:
Dec 13th:
Some time in between Dec 13 and 30th he broke both his extra brow tine and his right side brow tine, along with chipping his G4 on his right side a good bit.
December 30th:
8 hours before the 30.06 barked and the Barnes TTSX ruined his day:
Got in the shooting house (elevated noisy cold roofing tin blind) at 6:45, overlooking 15 acres or so of 6 year old cutover with bush hogged lanes and 2 struggling wheat fields in the middle of it. Two spikes came out at 5 til 7, then got run off by a 4 pt and 6pt who came out on the same cut like they owned the place. They were all gone by 7:05 then nothing was seen until 10:00. He weighed 181 lbs and was dead on 18" inside spread. By far my best ever. Looking forward to getting him over to Artistic Whitetails very soon!
