I wouldn't have shot him as a "cull" because I don't believe in 'em except maybe in a few situations and that's a young deer with a couple of more years on him before peak.

But on TVA property I'd have smoked his butt. Congrats. Sounds like an exciting hunt.

What does cull mean? It is not in my vocabulary as a hunter.

Hard to tell age from that pic but I would guess 3.5 if he was in fact 3.5+ And i was hunting an area being managed I would shoot him if it was late season and I had bucks left to kill for the simple fact that he is never gonna be a high scoring buck. But he will be eating food that another buck with better genetics or a doe could be eating. On public land I would shoot him any time of the season if it made me happy.

I would have culled him in a heartbeat. Everybody says you can't change herd genetics by shooing a cull, but you can't change the herd genetics by sitting with your finger up your butt either.

Public land hunters will cull him every time I know I have been one and I would cull him even at the club.

sorry to hijack, but thats hilarious.

I dont think he is a cull, Looks 2 yr old, Nice rack to be 2yr old. I cant really tell if he is older than that, if he is, then maybe, 3yr olds with good genes will have some good headgear

No reason to cull anything on TVA land. You sure as heck aren't going to assist in any effort to manage it. The decision is only to drag or not to drag. If he is worth the drag out enjoy him.

He's not a 2 yr old buck... and doesn't have an impressive rack at what looks like a 3 yr old buck but I can't tell. I don't think he's two so... your call and I wouldn't worry about it. Cull? Not crazy about that word. Congrats on deer.

If I'm hunting Nation Forest land, a cull is a diseased or injured deer. I hunt by State Law on public land if I want meat for the freezer. I hunt by club rules when hunting on our lease. I've never known of a cull that was shot on our lease.
