Seriously,

1. The true effects of HEAVY hunting pressure on small acreage.
2. That chasing really does happen in Alabama and how sweet it is when it is "on!"
3. I can't shoot a rifle left handed (missed a Yote at 60 yards).
4. The importance of "hunting the wind"

This is a great and helpful thread. I have learned that, no matter how patient I think I am being, I need to wait another minute before pulling the trigger. I have learned that an electric golf cart is the ultimate hunting vehicle and I have had the same success this year as I had when I use to walk in. I have learned that I am getting old at 32 and I will bring Advil next time I want to sit in a climber from dawn till dusk. I have learned to zip the zipper on my hunting pouch that holds my tree harness strap. I got to my tree twice this year and had no strap. I learned that Muck Boots and Under Armor 3.0 Base layers are the best way to stay warm and I can't believe i ever hunted without them. I learned to look at the hunting log from last year and pick the least hunted spot on the map to find my honey hole. I actually learned that a few years ago and do this every year. Most importantly I learned that getting in the tree at 5:30 AM on a clear moonless morning and looking at the stars is one of the most humbling yet awesome experiences and it reminds me how insignificant we all are in God's great universe. Last but not least, I found the ALdeer forum and found that it is the best way to put waste to a productive day at work. Speaking of work.....

That deer hunting makes me love turkey hunting more and more every year.

1.Coyotes will scare the crap out of you when you are surrounded and they are howling like crazy and you can't see them.

2. Turkeys must eat deer and armadillos. I have seen turkeys all over the place this year but the others have dissapeared.

3. I never knew kid's had to pee so much.

4. It takes a few years to figure out that if you pass up a small deer a bigger one might show up.

5. Deer hunting is an addiction and I don't look forward to the withdrawals next week.

6. God is amazing and has given us wonderful opportunities.

-Those little stakes that come with ground blinds are useless on a power line and a windy day. Get real tent stakes!
-The rut is still a mystery in my county
-Aramdillos are faster than you think.
-Accept the wind, it will blow hardest on the days I hunt.
-Those shots on the neighbors land are the ones you let walk getting drilled.
-Dragging a deer 200yds hurts more than it use too (for days).
-The older I get, the colder I get.

I forgot one:
I also learned that bringing pee bottles in the woods is useless. I had two deer, on separate occasions, browsing under my climber where I had taken a leak multiple times that day. Literally 5-6 feet away from it and they never batted an eye. One was a 2.5 year old buck.

1. An 11 ft gator will make you leave a skid mark in your waders while duck hunting.

2. Hogs are a blast to hunt and eat dang good as well.

3. Watching my wife have a great hunting season is great. Watching her learn about the woods and become aware of what is going on in the woods is priceless.

It's the only way I get to see gooduns. It's always my pleasure to help drag for one of my bestest hunting pals so I can at least get some kind of look at one.

My heart still races at the sight of a doe stepping out.

That a buck deer will cause a grown man to do many things.
Sad as it is some grown men will comprimise their integrity over a buck deer.

That Outback can be buried in a hole 5' & long 2' wide , and Matt Brock can't hit a barn with his new bow ! hehe

1. I have a very small bladder... 6-8 oz.
2. Neighbors and trespassers suck...
3. A Bow kill is much more rewarding than a gun kill...
4. And my ML still has no Mojo....

That I am a lazy deer hunter and I don't want to have to drag and clean deer...

That my 11 year old son has a good heart...I didn't just learn that but the fact was solidly confirmed. I broke my foot a few weeks ago and I'm on crutches til February, I told him I was sorry but our season was pretty much over and it w2as doubtful he'd get to go again this year. He told me that he didn't care and he just wanted me to get better. Wow that made my eyes water I tell you.

That my 9 year old really doesn't want to deer hunt, but he wants to dove hunt as much as I can take him next year. "Dad I just want to be able to go hunting with you and not have to be so still and quiet. Can we get a bird dog?" Priceless.

That having a club 30 minutes away from my house is awesome.

I learned not to hang around a man named Larry.

1. Hunt in the thickest young pines you can find.
2. That if your walking to your stand and see a good deer, it's not cheap or unethical to go ahead and get one for the freezer.
3. Hunting with friends is great, but not as much when you have to choose the stands they are going to hunt for them, and take each of them to the stands. And then pick them all up again because no one else knows their way around the place!
4. To stay home and do the things my wife wants done so that I can hunt in peace another day.
5. That sometimes things just work out, and sometimes they don't.

1-That pine trees can grow fast enough in a year to screw up a honey hole.
2-That some people are lucky enough to have deer search for them
3-That it really sucks when you get only 5 deer in bow range and everyone of them are spikes.
4-That i am ready for it to be over with.{for at least a week or two}

1. If your huntin buddy helps you "sinch" down your tree stand on your back when you get to your tree you cant get it off your back!
2. Dont leave your favorite folding huntin chair by this tree on public land, it wont be there 45 minutes later.
3. Your GPS works better if you take it in the woods with you instead of leavin it in the truck.
4. 4-wheeler batteries from walmart only last one season.
5. Just because you sight in 1 inch groups @ 200 yds. doesnt mean you can hit a deer @ 30 feet.
6. I've got more but i've learned I have a lot to learn !!!

That stereotypes about "out of state" hunters is rooted in a small amount of truth. I have seen more spikes and fawns killed this year than in my previous 15 of deer hunting.

They drive a long way and expect to kill something for their effort I guess!

I've learned (again) that having more older aged bucks in your herd makes them no easier to kill. CD.
