2. a doe and a big 8 point. i think i missed the doe because my base was very loose on my gun. found that out the next day.

Glad you are being honest but DANG....7 for 12! Not sure if I have EVER missed 5 unless I was close to 20+ kills. I have not missed yet this year and once last year.

Funny you bring this up today, dadgumit. I only shoot big mature deer with my gun, and have only shot two deer in the last 5 yrs with my gun. Yesterday morning, had a true hoss come in at 45 yards, hunting with the smokepole. Aimed right at the back crease of the shoulder and snapped a primer, the deer looked right at me and watched me pull a primer out of my pocket, open the breach, take out the shot primer, put the new primer in, close the breach, and he just stood there looking at me. He finally started feeding again and I pulled back up on him. He was behind a couple of large water oaks, I let him clear the oaks, they pulled the trigger, good fire this time. He bucked up and ran about 60 yards and stopped, I thought to die. Then he trotted into a thicket. No blood whatsoever, and then I saw where my bullet had hit the largest water oak there. From where I was shooting, there was no way I could have even hit the water oak, it was totally behind several other trees. I looked and looked and finally found a 3/4 inch sapling between me and where the deer was standing. Shot about 1/8 inch on the right side of the sapling and the bullet deflected about 1.5 ft to the right. I was sick, but glad it was a clean miss. This was only the 3rd deer I have ever missed in 25 yrs of deer hunting and he was the second largest deer I have ever shot at with either a bow or gun. 1/8" was the difference in a trophy mature buck and nothing. Never saw the sapling, guess it was just the bucks turn to win yesterday.

Sounds like ya'll need to learn how to shoot or take better shots.

I missed one with a bow, haven't missed (or lost) any with a rifle.

I missed a doe when my arrow nipped a vine that I didn't see, I haven't missed with a rifle since I was a teenager. I just never take "risky" shots.

Can't miss if you don't pull the trigger. I've seen 11 different bucks but haven't seen one like I'm after so I have not fired a shot so far (actually I forgot about the one I killed in FL, but haven't fired a shot in AL). I didn't get to hunt much until the last few weeks and our does harvest has been shut down since Jan 2nd so I didn't even get to shoot at a doe. Hopefully I'll get to heat the ole barrel up before the end of the season. If not it's fun to shoot and release them.

I have in my life only missed one deer with a gun. It was opening day 2006. I figured out later that day my scope was loose.

I have not missed a deer with a bow since opening day 2005. (I killed that same deer later)

Missed a doe about a month ago. Didn't see the brush in front of her. The arrow dropped down with a clean miss thank goodness.

0 for 1 with my bow; 4 for 4 with gun

2 shots - 2 kills.
One doe with an old fashioned muzzle loader and one buck with my BAR 270. Hunted many days with a bow but got no opportunities.

I've missed more deer this year than I have ever missed in my entire hunting career. It was so bad this year that it was just plain embarrassing. By the end of November I was so disgusted with myself. You just have to keep them misses in the back of your head, remember why you missed, and learn from your mistakes. That's what makes a great hunter. For me this year, it was all due to being ill equipped. I need a range finder for bowhuntin, I need a scope on my slug gun, and a shootin stick for my rifle. I will never shoot at a deer off hand ever again. You have to have a rested aim.

2 for 2 on deer with 25-06, 80 yards and 165 yards.
1 for 2 on yotes / feral canines with 9mm carbine.
2 for 2 on yotes / feral canines with 30-30.
4 for 5 on yotes / feral canines with 25-06.

Zero. I will not say that I do not miss but I have only missed two times since I was a teenager.

one doe. cut white hair but no blood. looked for her for over 2 hours but never found any other sign except the hair where she was standing when i shot.

So far, the only shot I missed was a moving coyote, with my bow. I'm two for two on deer with my gun.
