Saban hasn't been in Tuscaloosa much lately. The dead period of recruiting starts soon and he is working hard to close out on this class of recruits. What's the hurry? There isn't a contract laying on his desk waiting for a signature. I think there is an agreement in principal, but the lawyers will have to go over it and the BOT will probably have to meet to approve any extension and increase in pay. He had some very good visits with Fornette and Brown today.

So is Saban interested in Texas potentially?

I talked to one of my key sources in the coaching search placement industry late last night.

"Alabama people are convinced that he (Saban) is going nowhere," the executive told me. "But you talk to people outside of that Alabama bubble, there's a very different tone."

"He's had a contract on his desk that was going to up his pay another $1-to-$1.5 million and he had that the week before the Iron Bowl. It was supposed to get leaked two weeks ago Monday. Well, it never really got leaked and now you have Gil Brandt out there saying the negotiation is at $7 million."

SO now the contract has been on his desk since before the iron bowl? Next thing they are going to say he has had it since last season.

The last sentence in that quote renderred it completely unbelievable.

I've had my doubts he would leave a few days ago but its now starting to look like a duck.

Coach Brown will resign and THEN, Texas and Saban will act like the negotiations "just" started. Saban will save face and act like he just started to consider TX and when he said he would stay at UA, he meant it but things have changed and he and Terry feel it's in their best interest to coach at TX. Then he'll start into a diatribe on how great UA is and he loves Tuscaloosa, etc... and he'll catch a plane to Austin and he's gone. My prediction.

I don't think he will go to Tejas. Why would he unless to satisfy some eclectic urge or goal. If that's the case, there is nothing can be done to keep him.
Everyone should agree that if you are going to coach college football at the top level, you will find no better place to do that than at Alabama. They will do anything, pay any price and treat you like a god if you are successful. For someone with a bit of a Napoleon complex it's as good as it gets in T-Town.
The more intriguing question is this. If Nick leaves Bama for Texas and a) Bammer slips into mediocracy and b) AU is spanking that hiney routinely (ie the dark days of "fear the thumb". etc) and where c) Texas becomes the next college football dynasty winning NC after NC; Does Alabama leave Nicks statue up? Does Texas erect Nick a statue? Can Texas buy Nicks statue from Bama at a reduced price thus effecting a win-win for acquisition and removal? Thoughts?

If he goes to Texas he had better triple his security force! There is no telling what some of the rabid Alabama fans will do! This isn't a jab at anyone on here! I truly think a "Bammer" will try to do him harm if he leaves!

I personally hope he stays at Alabama until he retires. I loved the Bear and would like to see what Saban can accomplish before he's finished at Alabama. Auburn and the SEC will only get better if he stays.

I find it comical, Bama fans were hot on getting Meyer out of Florida, it's comical that they (bama fans) think that Saban is Loyal when he "will not be the next alabama football coach"...

personally I don't care, Florida plays them next year and we will get our asses handed to us again.

The only thing I would be worried about if I were a bama fan with him leaving is his class falling apart, and all those little NCAA buggers that Bama has had the last year or so.

Listen to the comments all year with him and his wife, they're paving the way for him to leave.
