Boxers. They also make great family pets. x2 I have two boxers. Well, technically 1 1/2. One we kept from the first litter the female had. His father was half pit and husky. But he looks like a brown boxer. Anyways, the point is they are big ol lap dogs to the family, wary of our friends until the dogs get to know them (usually takes three or four visits). And strangers get the growls and warning treatment. I always know when someone pulls up to the house. Heck they even threaten my vehicles until we poke our heads out. Then they turn into big dumb ol dogs. This is my boxer Daisy to a T. Fantastic dogs!!!

belgian malinois, they will kill everything though hope you don't have cats. Wrong^^^^^ I had one for 15 years that never hurt any other animal, in fact played with my cats and took care of several fawns. She did bite a person trying to break into my house.....
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

Kinda of a joke I did have a friend that had one that ate neighborhood cats, he was an irresponsible person though. I did make this recommendation cause I like this breed. If I wanted a security dog this is what if have!

The Presa Canario is a different breed... but they do 'look' like a pitbull on steroids. You will not have people wandering around in your yard if you have one!

Shepards are great guard dogs. FYI though it is very common for them to have problems with their hips though which can cost $3000 for replacement. Something to consider because they will become one of the family.

Very strange that the guy would knock on the door then just walk away to loot the shop when no one answered. I would have thought he would have kicked the door in too. If he isn't going to kick the door in, why risk bringing attention to himself? Why not just go loot the shop without knocking? Of course I know when dealing with thugs like that you aren't dealing with the highest level of intelligence. That's what I was thinking. Then again meatheads don't exactly have a high IQ

We got a boxer and she is great with us and the kids and is very protective of us. She also has a bark and growl that would make you think a werewolf was on other side of door.
kill em all let God sort em out

Dude I wouldn't wander in my own yard if i had one of these! I grew up blue heelers. Not very intimidating but an excellent family dog and extremely protective. I had a big male one time that would go about 60 lbs. His dad was a hog catch dog. I don't think a lion would have come in the yard with us playing outside. He was as good as gold but a stranger didnt get out of the car.

http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/canecorsoitaliano.htmCane Corso, Roman "war dog". Valued for centuries in Italy as a guardian. Very expensive though. The Caucasian Ovcharka that someone else mentioned would also make an extraordinary protector, but is also very expensive. Same problem with other renowned guard dogs such as Boerboel and Fila Brasileiro. For the money and availability, I'd agree with others that the German Shepherd would be hard to beat.
He never promised that the cross would not get heavy & the hill would not be hard to climb.

I agree with a GSD breed. if your considering this breed do yourself a favor and make sure you research reputable breeders and linage. it will also help if you where to visit a schutzhund park and talk with owners and breeders. DON'T just go pick out a GSD(not to say you can't get lucky that way)make sure you research the bloodline, also it will help if you look for german working lines not show lines(not that there's nothing wrong with show lines)Most important when you've found the right one for yourself and family from looking at parents ,bloodline and all pertaining factors, you have to stay on top of this breed. As soon as you arrive home with your new family addition you have?need to set order(training and discipline are a must). you will need to spend as much free time as you can with this breed otherwise your instore for a migraine.
