Most underrated strategy for keeping feet and toes warm is making sure your core temperature doesn't drop. If your overall body temp is dropping, or if the skin on your torso and legs can't keep comfortably warm, then your blood vessels close to the surface constrict to keep blood from losing heat to the surroundings. Obviously, on bodyparts with high surface area to volume ratio like fingers and toes, they are then left to thier own devices, and you can't hardly keep them warm. With no blood flow through fingers and toes, it doesn't matter how much insulation you put on them .... There's no heat flow.

It can be hard to wear enough clothes to stay totally warm without sweating on the way in. So I walk in carrying the outer layers (parka , bibs, etc) and only put them on once at the stand.
