I love double action and single action revolvers. Even with all the high tech, semi-autos around...you just can't beat a good big bore revolver for having fun while hunting.
My favorite caliber for target shooting is .38 special wad cutters...but I have a S&W .44 magnum (4" barrel) with a factory action as smooth as silk. It has a satin blue finish. I even conceal carried the pistol for a while. Dad carried it for a few months as a Game Warden Captain.
Does anyone own/shoot a .454 Casull or a .500 S&W magnum, or other big bore handgun ?
I hear the .500 S&W mag has a brutal recoil but that doesn't bother me.
Who hunts with big bore wheelguns...and what is your favorite caliber/model ??

I have a Colt Anaconda .44 Mag. It is actually pretty pleasant to shoot. Not as bad as my snub .357 for sure.

I have a Colt Anaconda .44 Mag. It is actually pretty pleasant to shoot. Not as bad as my snub .357 for sure. Colt Anaconda...Now that's a fine handgun, Skullworks ! My .357's are brutal, too. But firing .38 wadcutters are a lot of fun and really accurate. I've used .38 wadcutters more than .357 rounds. My .44 S&W is fairly pleasant to fire, also. It has quite a report with the shorter barrel, and the stock, cocobolo grips are rather large, but my .44 mag is actually fun to shoot. In the 1970's...during the Alaska Pipeline work, .44 magnums were selling like hotcakes. (bear protection) That's when mine was bought.

I had a 460xvr with a bushnell scope that I shot for a few years. The cost of ammo and the weight of the gun was a bit more than I wanted to hunt with. I have a GP 100 357 that the wife likes to shoot with 38 hand loads. My Ruger SS Blackhawk Bisley 45LC is my choice for shooting and hunting. With the Dillon 550 reloader I can keep the wife and I supplyed with hand loads with no trouble.

I have a .460, .44 and .41 all in the S&W family, along with a .357 and Thompson-Center 7x30 Waters and .45/.410.
The 7x30 and .41 have killed deer and hogs at close range. I love shooting them and stalking, especially for hogs.

Toolmaster, that's a good looking wheelgun. I had a S&W .500. Fun gun to shoot, but expensive! I killed a doe last year with it and sold it a few months later. I replaced it with a .44 Blackhawk. It's been magnaported and has had a trigger job. Leather from Simply Rugged.

It was ported when I bought it so I can't say how much it helps but for what its worth, I like it.

Excellent handguns ! Man I love those western style pistols and leather !
All I have in a western style is a Ruger Super Single Six .22/.22 WMR and a Bianchi holster. I used it for trapping and hunting squirrels...and once for self defense.
The Bisley and Blackhawk are nice !
Clem, how do you like your .41 magnum ? (as opposed to the .44 magnum) Do you have a personal preference ??
I've always wanted a Dillon re-loader.

I love shooting the .41 but have not shot it and the .44 enough to say "this one is better" or whatever.
More shooting is on my to-do list for 2011.

I've taken several deer and hogs with my S&W 500 Mag.
The 350 grain XTP's have proven to be the most accurate
With the 8" ported barrel, the recoil isn't much worse than my .44 Redhawk.
I hate making a good first impression. There’s no way I can keep that shit up.
