there is a big difference in what happened to Hollywuds dog in his NEIGHBORHOOD and what you are talking about.
I own land..it is in the country. I pay every month a mortgage and tax for that land. The whole reason I bought that land is to deer hunt and to manage it in a NO PRESSURE low impact enviroment. My neighbors have done the same. Between 6 of us...we have over 5 THOUSAND acres. We limit our own activity on our own land to keep a managed low impact, low pressure deer population. THAT IS OUR CHOICE FOR OUR LAND!
Just because you buy a 1 ACRE house lot bordering our property DOES NOT give your dog the right to CHASE DEER all over OUR properties. I dont shoot dogs but my neighboring friends that own the rest of the land will shoot them as soon as they see them. And I agree with them.
We see dogs that are over a MILE from any house on our land. If they see them..they kill them. There is also a leash law in our town...your dogs is REQUIRED to be tied or you are in violation.
The attitude of " When you live way out in the country like I and many other people do, we let our dogs run loose. That is why I chose to live rurally! No rules, no regulations" is ludicris and disrespectful to the actual property owners and neighbors! you think because you live in the country your dogs can run all over your neighbors property?????
and this statement is even more offensive: "serious" about deer hunting. Really!?!? Come on!! Serious. What the hell is that? A "serious" deer hunter?
We are serious about managing our THOUSANDS of acres we OWN and PAY TAXES on the way WE WANT! we dont shoot anything but mature bucks and make considerable sacrifice in managing our deer and caring for our property. IT IS NOT YOUR DOGS FREAKIN PARK!

Kinda in the same boat. The times, they are a changin'. I'm not big on dog shootin' especially if it looks like a pet or hunting dog with a collar. Could be a kids pet that is lost or a expensive coon hound. However, the free ranging mutts that hang around for days and those that like to run deer with dogs in a none dog hunting county, might be in trouble. Most folks can tell the those that might need SSS and those that don't.
Hollywuds was obviously a family pet, I'm betting he was shot by some juvenile delinquent.
