Another topic on this forum inspired me to post these thoughts here. I was very encouraged to see the outpouring of support for one of our fellow members who's dog had been purposely injured by another human being. I have dogs, and I love them just like he loves his and you love yours. Every year, you will see posts on this site threatening to and bragging about shooting someone else dog while they are deer hunting. I have commented on it before and been called names and accused of not being "serious" about deer hunting. Really!?!? Come on!! Serious. What the hell is that? A "serious" deer hunter? Anyways, I know that it is frustrating when a dog comes through the area you are hunting but it is not a big deal. Now before you go off, listen. I'm not talking about deer dogs or deer dog hunting! I'm talking about people's pets. When you live way out in the country like I and many other people do, we let our dogs run loose. That is why I chose to live rurally! No rules, no regulations, so I don't want to hear that 'if you don't want your dog shot, then you had better keep it up. Hell no! I live here, you my friend are just a visitor. Dogs have their daily routine and interacting with deer are part of it. It is just a game they play. So if you are going to hunt around a populated rural area, you need to just learn how to adapt to their environment and play the game with them.
