About 7am I had a buck come in about 30 yards from me.. I took the shot. I thought I made a good shot. He went 15 yards stopped and took off. I got down at 9 to see blood and hair on my rage and a chunk of hair close to where I shot him.. we tracked blood droplets every few feet for about 100 yards and lost it on the wet leaves.. It was my first buck with a bow and I'm not sure what I could have done different.. I never found that blood splatter. could it have been a flesh wound? Any advice?

What kinda blood? Smell your arrow? Deer bounding when it ran off? Tracking dogs!

If he went 15 yards, stopped, and then took off, he's probably fine. They usually don't do that if fatally wounded.

If he went 15 yards, stopped, and then took off, he's probably fine. They usually don't do that if fatally wounded. This is true, but he should still make every effort to find him and not assume. I would get a dog if I had access to one.

actually dark hair... could barely sleep last night trying to decide if I grazed the top of him or it was a pass through.. The rain we get here in Huntsville overnight hasn't helped matters.
