I haven't hunted it in about 20 years, but was in a club there before it became a part of the management area. I killed a couple of 8's, but they weren't that special. I had a buddy in my club now kill an 11 pt. two years ago there that they made a big deal out of and he wouldn't have scored 110". I do know the deer are getting larger there. There are also a lot of idiots that hunt the refuge so be advised it can get dangerous.
That's hunting PUBLIC land for you. I had a pretty decent 10 point shot out from under me literally. The buck was coming up a draw on my side of the hill and a guy across from the other ridge shot it. Too Close for comfort for me.
