OK, I found a link to the map/permit for Scotch.

PERMITS: Permits required for all hunting and trapping. Gun deer and youth permits issued daily from Management Area Headquarters. No dog deer permits issued after 7:00 a.m. Season small game, archery,
and turkey permits may be picked up at Area Headquarters or through the mail by writing Area Biologist Bruce W. Todd, 790 Firetower Rd., Coffeeville, AL 36524; Phone (251) 626-5474 (include current hunting license
numbers and SASE). On each of the gun deer hunts, each hunter under 16 years and females will be issued an either sex deer permit good for that hunt (only one deer per day on bucks only hunts.) All small game,
archery, and turkey hunters should sign hunter log books located at check station. All turkeys harvested must be recorded at the check station prior to leaving the area.
This part means you have to pick up a permit for the day on scheduled gun hunts even if you bow hunt that day:

This means the archery permit is a season permit:
Season small game, archery,
and turkey permits may be picked up at ...
... except on scheduled gun hunts:
Hunting Dates:(Archery) Nov. 23-30 and Dec. 21-Jan. 1 (except on dates of gun and primitive weapons deer hunts).
This means you have to log in at the check station when you bow hunt:
All small game,
archery, and turkey hunters should sign hunter log books located at check station.
This says turkeys have to be recorded before you leave. I don't see deer in that requirement:
All turkeys harvested must be recorded at the check station prior to leaving the area
... and I agree. All these rules are a pain.
