Did some scouting last week at Wheeler. I didn't realize it was closed because of the gov shutdown. There were no signs.
Anybody going to Wheeler on opening day?

I haven't quite made up my mind it will be Wheeler or Bankhead National Forest.

Doubt they are going to say much. Kinda stupid to shutdown land that just sits there anyway.... If you already have permit, I would think it would be OK. I can verify thru my Game Warden buddy though.

I've got a permit. I agree the whole thing is stupid. Yeah, I wonder what a game warden's take on it would be. With it closed, would they consider you trespassing?

The sign posted @ Wheeler HQ states Wheeler is closed to all activities,don't get caught with a weapon !

I had been planning on it but really don't know if its worth the risk. I've been told that it couldn't be enforced without no trespassing signs. But that was a local warden. If the Federal are saying they will write tickets as though it was out of season they will probably be out in full force to get all the money out of it they can.

What I've been reading says fishing has been shut down also. Has anyone heard or saw this being enforced in the Cotaco creek or Flynt area?

I will also be in court if I get stopped. A game warden can give you a ticket for anything. But that don't mean a court will uphold it. See yal out there.

If the game warden is going to give tickets for hunting out of season does that mean everyone can go ahead and start hunting now.:) that way it will be liget.
