Using a vintage .22 rifle with iron sights for squirrel hunting can be a lot of fun. If you have a good squirrel dog...it is even better.
I have a few .22 rifles I've collected over the years. One of the most accurate is a Remington model 12A refitted with a US M44 bull barrel. The M44 .22 bolt action was used before and during WW 2 to train military personnel and civilian shooters. The little rifle shoots one ragged hole at 30 yards. And the Remington pump action is fast and very reliable. It's drilled and tapped for a Lyman Tang sight and I may mount one on the little rifle.
Another favorite .22 rifle I have is a Winchester model 1890 pump action with a octagonal bull barrel. It groups shots as good as the Remington.
