The son and I are gonna get to hunt in Nebraska this November so the wife tell me that we (me and her with three kids) are going to Hawaii in May. I like the idea of getting to go to the Arizona Memorial but other than that and the beach, I am lost. Thanks for any tips / advice. At least her dates are after turkey season and before deer season!

They have turkeys, deer, hogs, and goats upon other game animals over there. There are volcanoes to go look at, beaches, fishing, rain forest zip lines, basically anything you could want to do. I doubt you will have a problem finding something to do.

It's a cool place depending where you go. I bought a whole chicken off the side of the road in a little village looking place for $5 and it was the best damn chicken I ever ate.

If the Japanese economy is doing well it'll be wall to wall Japs wherever you're at. IMHO the Arizona memorial will be worth the trip. I was fortunate enough to have long layovers on my way tp Guam and saw some of the scenery.

I've stayed on Waikiki beach half a dozen times. It has its share of beauty, but it goes from luxurious to inner city crap quicker than you can blink an eye.
I cannot recall the name of the bay I snorkeled in but you should check it out. I want to say it was on the Eastern shore of Oahu in a public park. It was a very low cost but awesome experience. It would also have been a cool place to lounge around, but I was there when the doors opened and headed out a few hours later.

Go to Arizona/Pearl Harbor, Punch Bowl National Military Cemetery, Palanision Cultural Center, oh, Ya goatta see Waikki Beach. Maui is more laid back. Been about 30 years since I was there, I'm sure it's changed and is more expensive.

I've been to Maui, Kuai, and Kona...you can turkey hunt in Kona, but other than that, I wouldn't go back to Kona.

Went to Oahu back in July. Stayed in Honolulu.Lots of homeless people on waikiki beach. A little too crowded for me.Honolulu traffic is a nightmare. But other than that it was a great vacation. Go to Waimea Beach, and some of the other obscure, less crowded beaches, these are REALLY nice. Check out the Chinatown markets, ZOO, Bishop Museum, and of course Pearl Harbor. Go VERY early to Pearl Harbor to get your tickets/appointment. While your waiting on your appointment for the AZ memorial check out the Missouri, the Bowfin and the airplane museums. Also you could go to the Dole Plantation which was very interesting. I planned on doing some bowhunting but it didnt work out. There are no signs for the public hunting areas, and actually no road signs to help you find them. Took 2 days to find one area and the gate was locked.
If you want to hunt, hire a guide and go on private land.
Or just carry a fishing rod and hit some of those obscure beaches.I never found any "Hawaiin" food, mostly oriental of some sort. But good food nonetheless. Probably the best family vacation I've ever had.

In Oahu, Be sure to go to the North beach or what is also called the Bonsi pipeline. That is where in their winter surfers from all over the world come here to surf the 50 foot waves.
As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

Helicopter tour sounds like fun - definitely get to see some interesting scenery.

Lived in Pearl City from 95-98. So it has been awhile. Get your tickets for Pearl Harbor early. You might be able to do it on-line. The Mighty Mo is there now. You can see where the war started and where it ended.
Punchbowl NMC is a good place to visit. The Dole pineapple place is a neat visit. The north shore beaches were nice. Golfing is great.
BTW traffic sucks. Stuff is expensive. As I said before traffic really sucks.
I agree with BGH. Maui is my favorite. It is what you think of if you have never been to Hawaii. Oahu is one big town. I also like the Big Island. Helocopter ride and the volcano is a must do on the big island.
