They tend to get heavy, and if not cleaned properly will jam on shot #2. If I were still toten a slip-o-matic, it would be a true Belgian BAR, nothin' else is close.
To my knowledge, every BAR that has ever been made was made in Belgium. My shorttrac is about 10 years old and it was made in Belgium...so are the newer ones....they are a HELL of a lot lighter than the older ones too. Mine will shoot way better than 1.5" at 100 yards too and will run through anything I put in it as long as I keep it clean and lightly oiled. Trigger job and you're good to go. I like it for the way we hunt up here in hillbilly country.

One rifle whats the fun in that. I use a 6.5 Grendel homemade AR style with a 24 inch barrel,7mm08 Remy thats been perfected, and a .270 BAR when I am not toting a bow

One gun would be tough for me. I like my 30-06 A Bolt, but I've got a special affection for my old Marlin .44 mag lever gun too. Then again, there's my granddad's old Winchester 30-30 to throw in the mix too.

An accurate Auto like the BAR would be tough to beat for all around hunting IMO.

Buddy of mine missed the biggest buck he ever got a chance at because his BAR didn't fire. It was slightly out of battery.

I don't see them as doing extremely well in any category and I've never needed a second shot faster than I could work a bolt. My motto has always been, the simpler the better.

Sounds like your buddys fault! smile

Probably, but the point is that it wouldn't have happened with a good bolt action. No, if you do this, or if you do that it works fine to worry about.

After '76 they were assembled in Portugal and were stamped on the barrel. Love those super fine, fold down sights on the true Belgium guns. Are new ones made by FN?

And FN does own them. The FNAR is just a souped up BAR with a better trigger.
