I have a Brittany that I would consider an inside dog she just needs room to run at some point during the day. She is 45 lbs. She is great with anybody(not the best watchdog). A Brittany is really smart and mind really well. I love to please.

Can't believe I'm even typing this, but wife was pitching a fit to get a standard poodle. Got to the point it was easier to just get the damn dog (and use it as ammo for rut) than to hear about it. That dog is 5 months old and lets our 7 month old crawl, lay, and pull all over her...without batting an eye.
Plus it don't shed

Corgi is the best of both worlds indoor / outdoor. This is what we have for our daughters. The other dogs are all good choices. The Corgi has been a very low maintenance. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pembroke_Welsh_Corgi
