BAR in a 308 would be my choice Bart. My BAR is a 308 but my favorite was a 270 back in the day! I've had several over the years. Never any kind of problem or failure to fire.

call me ole fashioned, most anything in 30-06. i'd least like to part with my ole a-bolt medallion in said round, though i do like my new t3 lite in same. the browning is a better shooter, or maybe i'm just use to it after 20+ years. one day i might try some of these new fangled .308 or maybe 25-06 rounds.

Tikka T3 in 308/7mm08 or Remington 7600 carbine in 308. Like the way you think. Good choices.

If I had one I'd tote a Rem 700 Classic on 270Win, with 130gr Nosler Partitions, topped with a Leupold 3x9x40. Fast enough for 30 yard running shots and accurate enough for 625 yard killing shots.

I would never choose a semi auto. An accurate Auto like the BAR would be tough to beat for all around hunting IMO. Buddy of mine missed the biggest buck he ever got a chance at because his BAR didn't fire. It was slightly out of battery. I don't see them as doing extremely well in any category and I've never needed a second shot faster than I could work a bolt. My motto has always been, the simpler the better.

I've never fired a BAR that wouldn't shoot 1 1/2" or less @ 100 yards . My experience has been with pre 76 Belgium guns. One of the 30-06s I still have is the best shooter, will shoot 1" or less. They tend to get heavy, and if not cleaned properly will jam on shot #2. If I were still toten a slip-o-matic, it would be a true Belgian BAR, nothin' else is close.

For me, hands down my trusty Remington 760 in .308. Great shooter, reliable, fast.
