I'm switching bullets to Hornady american whitetail. I have a 300 win mag and 150 gm bullet was highest gm they had. My question is, will 150 be to light a load or be just fine. It shot really well and I'm happy with the group. Shot 180 before.

I would think a lot will depend on the distances you are shooting deer. A 150gr bullet is moving pretty good out of a 300 WM. I tried 150 Core-lokts one season because that is all I could find and they made too big of a mess of the deer I was shooting. I shoot 180s now.

Its my main gun so shots of all distance, short or long. I'm hoping the Hornady interlock will hold together. If I get a lot of negative feed back guess I'll be going back to 180. The sporting good store guy talked me into this bullet.

I shot a 300WM for 10-12 years and I shot 150gr out of it with no problems.

The past several years I've shot 150gr Hornady SSTs out of my 300 Win Mag. I only had one deer take another step after the shot. All the rest were bang flop. Complete jello in the chest cavity with nice exit wounds. I'm hand loading some 180gr SSTs to try out this year just for the heck of it.
Either way, I think you'll be just fine with the Interlocks in 150gr.

I shot 150 grain AccuBonds in my 300 WSM, close up and at some distance, dropped them every time.

any off the shelf ammo out of a 300 will kill em. take the time and find a 180 or 200 grain that works good for you. think you;ll be happier in the long run. IMHO the heavier bullets are the main reason to shoot a 300. 180 grain accubond is my favorite.

I have a browning 300win mag and love the gun. I was shooting the 150 grain and found it a little light. It seemed that the bullet with the velocity the 300 had would just go through the deer. I lost some deer that way. I now shoot the 180 grain and I find it is great for deer. Some people will tell you it will mess up a deer. I don't find it does any more damage than my 270 with 150 grain. There is 165 grain that is good also.

I like the 170 or 180 grains for my 300 win mag.

the 180 grain bullet is designed for a lot more mass than what you shoot around here i have had 5/ 300 win mags and a 30/338 belted newton, when i got smart i bought a 270 an shot the Speer 130 grain boat tails the deer shot with it dropped in their track never to run off, like they have with the big belted mags, i have shot a deers heart out of its chest with a 180 grain in a 300 wi mag amnd it ran 50 yeards.when i read of yous guys buying these canons i think well someday they will learn, about hydrostatic shock does no mean you can use a bullet designed for grizzly to kill thin skinned white tail deer.the close-est bullet you can find that might fragment the better off you will be with those tank killers it will have enough sectional density to do the job, from a to z.the little calibers like the 243 / 270 is all that is needed to kill any game that walks the north American con-tin antand over 25 year s of killing deer and reloading everything i shoot you tend to find out what will work, and what is over kill.

Blackhawk I agree. I have a 300WSM /180g and the only animals I have shot with it are moose and grizzly bear. Seems a little much for whitetails.

I shoot a 165gr. SST in my 300 win mag. Accurate at long ranges, devastating wound channels. Never shot 150, i used to shoot 180.
