Is the North Alabama rut in full swing yet.

I hunt in marion county and haven't seen any rut activity so far. Normally this time of year we begin seeing lots of younger buck chasing but haven't seen this yet. Our doe sightings have been down greatly this year so I guess that has alot to do with it.

I killed one on the 17th following a doe and grunting. Saw 2 doe yrsterday in a different spot but nothing was following.

I hunt in marion co I have only saw a few small bucks chasing and i haven't herd of alot of action either.???

im in marshall county and i havent seen any sighns yet,a few rubs. i have been keeping a log of the rut around here for the last 2 seasons and they start scraping and chasing here around JAN.12th. at least that has happened the past 2 seasons and pretty much the same time. saw 2 nice bucks and a basket rack buck yesterday running together.....but thats a whole other story, had them at 20 yards broadside and couldnt draw my bow back due to being sore from cutting trees down with a chainsaw all day the day before,big 11 point,big 8 point and a basket 6 point walking together. im still upset!!! the first chance ive had all season at a deer and this happens,it couldnt of been more perfect,had no clue i even existed,had to let them walk on by! GRRRRRRR!! still sore today,feels like knifes stuck in my shoulder joints.

I think it is starting to happen on our place in W/NW Alabama. I've seen several lone does over the past week, which is unusual except during the rut. On Sunday afternoon a guy had a nice eight point run a doe all around him while he was still in his truck. He was in plain sight in the truck 60 yards away and he said the buck was paying him no attention at all. Yesterday I had a hot doe by me, with two bucks in tow chasing her and running each other off. Yesterday a member's wife killed a super 140-145" 11 point and his neck was swollen like a barrel. Yesterday a guy surveying one of the property lines jumped up a big buck. He went to investigate where the buck had been bedded down, and he said it smelled like a rutty buck where the buck had been bedded, even though the deer was long gone. This morning, I hunted and had a very pretty crusing 8 point come into some grunting. He was the only deer I saw. We aren't seeing a ton of deer. But if you do see one, it's likely to be a buck. Seems like it is always this way though, as the does that aren't ready are afraid to venture out because they know they wlll be harrassed by bucks. I'm excited for this afternoon and tomorrow, and just wish the weather for the end of the week looked a little better.

Need to put that chainsaw up and hang on to that bow, at least another month.

shot a nice buck on skyline 12/28/10 and his hocks are solid black and stink the high hell, when I seen him he was on a mission, he was by himself though not chasing but looking

I hunt in Hamilton and Detroit and have seen alot of fresh scrapes and also have got trail cam pics of some bucks with their tarsal glands black and some not, my cousin killed an 8 point that stunk horribly bad and was out looking but not chasing.

"north alabama rut" is an awful broad brush to be painting with. I live in Huntsville and all 3 tracts I hunt within an hour's drive of my house have distinctly different rut timing.
