Did you drill them, row plant them, or broadcast? Are they round-up ready? What rate per acre? What's the smallest acreage you can plant and still have them establish? Sorry for so many questions it's just I can't seem to grow them without the deer wiping them out before they establish.

I broadcast them at 1.5 bags per acre. They are Eagle Beans and are round up ready. I have them planted in fields from 2.5 to 5 acres. Anything smaller and the deer wipe them out.

Anything smaller and the deer wipe them out. your lucky to be able to successfully plant them in any field under 5 acres. I'm trying to talk my family into planting our "corn" fields in beans next summer but 3 of them are 2 acres and no one thinks they will stand up to the deer pressure. I'd like to give it a try b/c where we are the deer numbers are relatively low and we need to put some nitrogen back in the soil anyway.

I think one key to getting established summer plots is to plant them as early as possible. Plant them while the native browse is still tender. Most soybeans, not following wheat, planted by farmers in my area are planted the last week or so of April. When I plant beans for deer, they go in as soon as the frost danger looks to have passed. I don't wait until the last average frost date, I just go by the long term forecast.
