To: tfd1224 - Son before you start calling people idiots you need to learn to understand plain English. Go back and read my first message I sent out on this post. I said I don't believe the articles I'm reading about how bad the wild pigs are in Alabama. My opinion is based on my experience. The fact is for me...I haven't seen one single pig. Next, Sonny - I'm sure not looking for anybody to feel sorry for me. Where did you get that message? I do not want wild pigs around me cause they would destroy my crops. I'd hunt em down. And no I don't want to see anything "infested" with wild pigs. That sounds bad for the environment, deer, turkey and crops.
Further - I don't doubt anybody's post they made and even with pictures about the amount of wild pigs. It appears "Some" areas do have a problem. The articles I read over the past 10 - 12 years talks doom and gloom as if they are and already have taken over the entire state. This is not true. It's that simple.
Now go bully someone else. You don't play good with others. Dadbud, What is scary is the rate at which they are showing up in new areas as well as the increase in areas they are already in. So while Alabama is certainly not where Texas or Florida is it won't be too many more years before we are there.

It is true. They not everywhere nor or they in huge numbers in all the areas they currently populate. But, there is much of Alabama that is suffering horribly at the mouths of the pigs.

I am done with this thread. He is not going to believe anything you say until you go rub his face in a hog wallow. And dadbud I'm not bullying anyone. I just get irritated when people ask questions and someone answers them with photographical evidence and you try to act like they are lying to you. Heck elkhunter posted a pic on Facebook today of a trap with 18 pigs in it.

Let's get the facts straight one last time because tfd1224 distorted mine I think. Thanks to all for taking the time to post the pictures of pigs. I'm sure not calling anyone a liar. Them is fighting words and it wouldn't be right unless I had 100% evidence which I don't and I sure don't run around calling people liars. If anyone took it as me calling you liars then I was wrong for it. My only point I wanted to make is it's not as bad as some of the articles I've read say it is in Alabama. Pigs have not taken over. I have learned a lesson here though. Words can be interpreted many different ways by different people.

Absolutely!!!
And, for the record, I agree with you dadbud. There are not hogs in every area of the State. There are locales where they are congregated and are causing problems. These locales usually are where there are large tracts of private land that is tightly regulated OR large expanses of Public land that access is limited on.
There are more hogs in the State now than 20 years ago.....and in some areas they are really causing problems.
BUT, unless you are planting crops or supplementally feeding your wildlife; they are a long ways from the plague that is being described by some.
That said, I also concede that if left alone and not heavily harvested; they COULD become a severe threat to the environment in many areas of the State.

Caught one of those mythical creatures in the portable today.. this was just before it met it's demise from the Glock 29. For those into ballistic reports this G29 was converted to 9X25 Dillon. Round was 90 grain Hornady XTP @1700fps.

Those are the Tru Glo TFOs.. little pricey but you can see them as well in the day as night which is a far cry from the meprolights I have on my G21. Most gun shops stock them.

there are no wild hogs in Alabama, move along, nothing to see here.
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

Imo its like this. If your the land owner /farmer there is a problem even if there is just one hog on your property. If your a hunter looking for land with alot of hogs then there is not a hog problem in most places. I have cought close to a dozen in a morning with dogs on 600 acres but most of the time it seems like we're a day late and a dollar short and can't even find fresh sign. There are not as many hogs around here as there was but I have believe there are more than there was in others. There is no where in Calhoun county that has a severe hog problem especially the wma. Sure they are there but few and far between. Now the rivers in southern Alabama are a different story.

Ok then now I got another question here. If there is only 1 hog on Choccolocoo wma and everybody wants wild hogs gone why don't they let you hunt em? Having the season open for only 1 week won't take care of the problem will it? The article I read was quoting the game warden i believe, talking about how they are being more liberal on hunting pigs in Alabama to get rid of em. 1 week? Does that mean that don't care if wild pigs just take over and ruin the wma?

I killed my first Alabama hogs in Crenshaw County back in 1996. We killed several on a farmer's field of freshly planted corn. Killed one on the Tallapoosa River near Wetumpka in 2002. I didn't kill anymore until 2005 in Autauga County. After that I have killed pigs in Dallas, Bullock, Lowndes, Wilcox, and Clarke counties. Should be headed down to Barbour real soon to start down there.
There are places where there are tons of hogs. You just have to find them and get access.

At one time there was alot of hogs in ballplay. Very few now and they move around alot. There may be some land that holds hogs in ballplay but none that I hunt or have heard of in several years.

They are a problem in alot of places in Alabama but not as bad as some make out. I hunt alot in Georgia and I have would say the hog population is more widespread there.

I would say there are places that are just as horrible as the landowners are claiming. I know the places in Bullock and Clarke we have worked this year looked like a war zone. And the land is turned over every few weeks. I guess I need to start videoing some of these fields for evidence. Some places are not near as bad as the landowners claim. Some are. I never know when I go check a place for the first time. If you look at the hog distribution maps for Alabama, you can tell some places in advance. Up and down the Tombigbee is bad real bad the closer you are to the river. The Alabama is bad up and down it as well. Macon county south has some horrible pockets as well.
