That is just about it! We have a hard time convincing landowners that we are not like the other folks and that we won't do what other folks have done. Many still won't budge.

I know there are hogs in this state. It's just funny to hear people bitch about them, but don't want anybody to kill them. Some people never cease to amaze me. Yeah because the only reason they don't let people hunt their land is obviously because they are all just narcissistic selfish SOB's that just want to be mean. It couldn't be due the perfectly practical common sense concern of unleashing a bunch of people you don't know from Adams house cat onto your land. People who might leave gates unlocked or wide open for cattle to get out. Or shoot someone or injure themselves leaving you open to a lawsuit. And of course there is no chance that these complete strangers could turn out to be people that would poach deer or steal things from your property like tree stands. Naaaa, every one of them out there are more upstanding than the citizens of Mayberry on the old Andy Griffith show. Then there is the fact which soured many landowners on hog hunters. That fact being that many hog hunters are responsible for the rapid spread of feral hogs all over the state. They would catch them on one land owners place and then release them on another guys place. Then when landowner number 2 starts having a hog problem guess who shows up to offer their services in solving his problem? The same people who caused him to have the problem in the first place. This practice is what caused the state to pass the law making it illegal to bring live hogs out of the woods. What are you talking about? It's no different than gaining access for deer or turkey hunting. I don't hunt hogs for a living. The people I've heard complain about hogs, don't want them gone unless they can make money off of them. More power to them, but don't say you have a problem with them. If you truly have a problem with hogs, you'll want them gone.

Todd1700, it's not just people not allowing strangers on their land.
It's people you have known for years who complain about hogs, or about having "too many does and the biologist says we gotta kill x-number" or about having coyotes ... yet they don't want you or anyone else on their land.
They bitch and moan and complain, they whine about having a doe problem and meeting a quota, but they don't want anyone out there hunting and don't even want to let you bring a kid to shoot a doe or three or some hogs.
So, screw 'em. They can whine and have doe and hog and coyote problems. They're like a city with a deer problem but the officials don't want to hire sharpshooters and don't want to allow hunting and can't spend the money on ineffective-untested 'birth control' and so they keep whining and bitching and the problem festers and they pass it on to the next group of city officials.
They're just bitchy whiners.

Clem,
You are correct is some cases as well. There is no one shoe that will fit everyone. I do believe that even those folks will have to have a shift in attitude some day. Sooner or later they will get a belly full of them and decide to do something about it.

If you have known a guy for many years and he won't let you shoot a hog on his place then obviously he doesn't feel as close to you as you do to him. Any of my friends are welcome to shoot hogs on our land and have done so on many occasions. The thing I find ridiculous is the notion espoused by many that I can't complain about a hog problem unless I let anyone that wants to hunt our land.

I have seen a ton of them in Tuscaloosa county and a few in Winston county. You dont typically see them just running around like wild dogs. They are pretty smart. Harder to hunt than deer IMO.

In my case I can't figure out why a hunting club that has members that pay to kill deer and turkeys don't want any members that would pay to kill pigs but they still whine about having them. No I can't pay 2,000 dollars a year to hunt deer at these places but I would think that if these clubs had a problem with pigs and someone offered them 500 dollars a year to only hunt pigs from February to march and may through October they would jump on it. I know if someone offered my club 500 dollars to only hunt coyotes we would be more than happy to let him kill every freakin coyote he could shoot or trap.

Everyone is scared of losing their leases. They are afraid someone will find out how good it is and offer more money. It is a cut throat business out there. The guy with the deepest pockets wins.

Cletus picture of pigs looks like some of the pigs I raise. Hampshires, Yorkshires and Polish. Maybe some of those so called willed pigs are actually just pigs that got loose from a farmer. I would jump at the chance to hunt them.

They will root up anything planted and this past weekend I saw where they have rooted the ground in planted pines (10-12yr)They are being met with force by trapping but 1 litter can undo a lot of trapping time.

Two years ago I didn't know there were hogs on the oakamulgee nat frst near maplesville and I had hunted a lot of it. That year I saw hogs in two different locations 20 miles apart. One day they are in there thick as thieves the next gone for months at a time. I live 20 plus miles from there and they are showing up around the house. Ten more years and they will be all over the state. So just wait hogs coming to you very soon.
Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

One day they are in there thick as thieves the next gone for months at a time. They move around based on the food and water availability. Ten more years and they will be all over the state. They're already all over the state. Perhaps not to the point where every time you drive down a road or highway or interstate you see them like blackbirds in a field, but feral hogs have been found or spotted in every county or almost every county. Turn a domestic hog loose and within a couple of months it will revert to feral status. Same as with a cat or dog. They lose the domestication and it becomes survival of the fittest. Turn loose males and females, or if one or the other hooks up with others, and it's Katy bar the door.
