Well I've ball parked extra cost of owning a diesel. So far it looks like I'll be out some additional money. However it's nothing substantial because my vehicle will sit idel for two weeks every month while I'm offshore. That helps with less fuel and keeps miles off.
I fill up around 5 to 6 times while home from work so my fuel bill will increase $50 to $60 per month. Insurance is $36.13 more per month. The oil change and fuel filters are the only unknowns at this point. From what I've seen the fuel filters are a 20 min job so I will not be paying someone to change my filters. If I knew Ford would not try to void my warranty I would do my own oil change as well. I'm already spending $90 on a oil change in my 4Runner every 5000 miles.
I know I'm missing something but just don't see it being way more expensive to own a diesel. I do realize if it breaks the repairs will be much more expensive. I do plan to buy a good extended warranty if I purchase a diesel.
