Ok here goes. I'm as green as green could possibly be. Not tree hugging green but inexperienced green. Never killed a deer. Never really killed anything on purpose until earlier this month when we went on our first (successful) dove hunt. I'm here because 2 years ago both of my kids (then 11 and 15) were in my ear all year long about going hunting. We didn't even have a gun in the house. That Nov. our house was robbed and I said "that's it, we're going to arm this home, everybody's going to learn to shoot and I'm taking my kids hunting." So we didn't hunt that first year because I thought we just needed some time to learn about firearms especially firearm safety before we went tearing into the woods. Last year we had very limited opportunities but my son and I did go every chance we had. We never fired a shot although we had one opportunity the very first day we went (I'll save that for later and believe me I'm still hearing about it). This year my son, daughter and I started off earlier this month with dove season. I have never had so much fun with both of my kids at the same time before that day!!! They are 4.5 years apart with my daughter being the eldest and they have always been like cats and dogs, oil and water. This is the only activity I have ever found that both of them would fully engage in with complete focus and even cooperation. I want to take them hunting every day of the year!!!
I'm here to learn. Most of you probably grew up hunting. I'm 47 and last year was my first time. I have endless questions. I promise to spare you all the boredom if someone can direct me to the "noob's endless questions 101 forum" otherwise you'll just have to hit the "ignore" button (if this site has one of those) but what I hope will happen is that everyone will take a deep breath and have a little patience with the new guy.
