This was the question I got asked by the guy at Walmart tonight while buying some boxes of .22's. Apparently the cash register popped up with this question. I am not sure if this is used as marketing info, or what. I just thought it was odd, I have never been asked about the type of gun I was shooting my ammo through while making a purchase.

That's pretty strange.

They've been asking that for years.

neither! He shrugged and typed something in I guess. I had just bought some .223 and .45 a few nights before and never got asked any questions, so I am not sure if this is something specific to .22 or not.

This is fairly standard from what I've seen (at least at wal mart). You have to be 18 or 21 for handgun ammo, but I think the rules are different for rifle, may not be an age limit. Really stupid IMO.

First time I have ever been asked. I don't buy a lot of ammo from Walmart, but I usually buy .45 there when ever they have the 100 round Winchester white box ammo in stock.

When i was younger i would get asked this at the local wally world. If i answered pistol they would not sell them to me until i turned 21.

Just curious, do you appear under 21?

It is 18 for rifle and 21 for handgun, and since .22 can be either it is programmed to ask. If you really want to confuse the dummies behind the counter, tell them it is for both and watch the look on their face lol.

I remember when you had to fill out your address and sign a log book when you bought 22 ammo at Kmart.

When the Wal Mart clerk asks, I like to tell them neither. I'm buying it to resale on the internet.
