What is a good arrow to hunt with a recurve bow? I would like to get some now and practice for next year.

Go with carbons. Gold Tips would be a good one. As BhamFred asked, you'll need to know how much you're pulling and your draw length to determine what spine to start with. From there you'll need to determine what grain head you want to use. I would go with at least 150gr. The next step will be bare shaft tuning the bow. When you get a chance do an Internet search on "bare shaft tuning a recurve". It's not a hard process, but you'll need access to an arrow saw. I would also recommend getting some brass inserts for whatever arrow you choose. The problem most people have bare shaft tuning a bow is being over spined. That why you start out with a full length shaft and have the brass inserts handy in case you need the extra weight up front.

I'd go ahead and put a brass insert in my test arra, cut length from the nock end as you test. 100gr brass will give you an extra 100gr total arra weight. This is important in carbon arras that tend to end up way too light.

I personally shoot 570gr total weight out of several bows from 52-57 pounds. 30" shaft, 100gr brass insert, 200gr point. It will go thru the shield on a BIG boar....

Gold Tip 35/55 shafts.

start with a full length 35/55, 100gr brass insert, 150-200gr point. Bare shaft shoot it into foam target at 20 feet. Nock showing to left=too weak, to the right to stiff

weaken spine=longer shaft, heavier point

stiffen spine=cut shaft(no more than 1/2" between tests, lighter point

a guess would be 31" shaft, 100gr brass insert(3-Rivers), 175-200gr point.

is that draw with a recurve or with a compound. Recurve draw will usually be shorter than with compound.

check your front of center on your arrows.

Call Jim and he will set you up. You would need Gold Tip Traditionals to get the weight you need. I like to shoot 10 grains per lb. In your case around 500 grains. Most recurves are lb. rated at 28" so you may be pulling more than 50 lbs. Tell him what bow you are shooting and he can make you up some. He also has Gold Tip Blemished shafts at great prices. They are a great buy and the only thing wrong with them is usually a faded decal or something along that line. You would need a fletching jig and some feathers. But if you want them ready made he can do that and can do custom wraps and your choice of feathers.
